October 2013 "Month Of A Thousand Writes" Story List
1. Scholar
2. Feeling Lesser Than Yourself
3. Blue Soul Chapter Eight Point Five and Nine
4. The Decaying Fortress
5. Celsius' Costume Crisis
In humanity's future, five men and women find themselves interrupted. There's something with them. Something that confuses them. Something that they can't place. Something that blurs lines. They're not sure what to call it... not sure if it wants to destroy them, or even what it wants.
All they know is that the computers are failing around them. The Scholar has already started to learn... and soon they're going to become better than any of the crew can measure up to.
Surprise! Usually I post this at the end of the month, but I wanted to kick October off this year with a story, and one of my big ones.
After Cooler ended, I almost immediately started to put together Scholar inside my head. The inspirations are... obvious, but hopefully not shamefully so. I wanted to work with the idea of this story being set in a larger universe shared with other, more well-established sci-fi franchises. The references within the story should tell you what exactly I'm talking about here. Admittedly I cheated and threw in another franchise that I love to bits, but fuck it.
That being said, this isn't fanfic. At least, I don't think so. I'm extrapolating on an off-handed statement (that should probably also be apparent if you know your quotes) that I felt carried some weight to it but wasn't expounded on, and using it to create my own story.
Finally, I know what I'm choosing is... not exactly something I've experienced for myself. I'm not like this, and I hope that I don't offend anyone who is. I'm trying to write beyond the narrative for transgendered individuals that I've seen preferred by writers, the idea of "the transitional journey". The idea that transgenderism is based solely on that journey, and there's nothing more to it. I wanted to write about something placed after that journey.
Hope you guys like this. Happy October!
