Among the furred folk, tattoos aren't tremendously practical, popular as they are among the reptile population (and, of course, the related art of chitin etching among the insectoids). However, body art is still popular, and it falls to a shaving artist to carve expressive designs into the client's pelt. It's a less permanent experience, of course, but there's a certain sense of commitment in maintaining a particularly meaningful design. Other services are available at the better shaving parlours, including dying and other manipulations. Let me tell you, you haven't lived until you've seen an antelope with full-body cornrows.
David is seen here in the process of having a design touched up. He's had it for quite a long time, and while he doesn't speak of it, it's clear it holds some connection to his past.
