So basically there's a story behind this.
I believe that there are two types of people in this world; those who think positively and can always see the bright side of things, and those who think negatively and get stuck in the past and become depressed over it.
You can probably guess that the faster parts in 3/4 represent the positive perspectives and the slow part about halfway through represent the negative perspective.

The opening is built well and contributes to the good flow throughout. The sudden drop in tempo made for an excellent transition into the middle piece. It was a real attention grabber to have such sharp notes slowing down so dramatically. I expected a big contrast when I read your description, and I got it, but not in the way I was expecting. The "negative" segment in the middle was more bittersweet than truly mournful, especially with the way the brass and timpanies broke through it partway through before the transition back towards the end. I'd say it's more of a summer-winter-spring feel than a light-dark-light feeling. You ended very strong, and that really brought it all together in this one. I am very impressed with your work here.
