Skye had a very exciting day. That morning, he played his favorite video game: The Legend of Zelda. He wasn't very good at the game, after all he was only four years old. But that never stopped him from having lots of fun. He played so long and was so distracted he ended up having an accident in his pull-up, but he had gotten further than he usually did, so it was worth it.
In the afternoon, after getting cleaned up and changed, he spent his time playing pretend. He was Link, and he was replaying the epic adventure he had that morning. He wanted to be Link when he grew up, so he had to practice. He was a great Link, he thought, as he swung a stick around outside, pretending it to be a sword. He whined a little when the sun started to set and his parents made him go back inside. But he cheered up once he realized he could still be Link indoors. Although he wasn't allowed to bring the stick in with him, he at least had a plastic toy sword to play with. Throughout the rest of the day, he managed to make it t the potty, although he did have to keep being reminded by his parents.
All throughout dinner he insisted on being called Link. His parents didn't mind, in fact they thought it was quite cute. Skye couldn't understand why his parents were giggling, but he was happy that they were playing along. Of course, in his mind, he really was Link.
When it was time to go to bed, instead of being told a bedtime story, he was the one telling his dad a story; a story about Link of course, and how he saved the Princess Zelda. He never got that far, so he just imagined how it went. He was praised for being such a great storyteller, before being pat on the head and kissed goodnight. Skye fell fast asleep, and unsurprisingly, began to dream about The Legend of Zelda.

He was now Link inside the game. And he knew just what to do. He walked up North into the cave, and he met the man there.
"It's dangerous to go alone, take this!" he said, but something was off. Instead of holding a sword like he usually did, he was holding…a diaper.
"U-um…I-I'm a big kid. I don't need a diaper…" he said shyly. He knew he wasn't supposed to talk back to grown-ups, but this had to be a mistake, right?
"It's scary out there, you know, and great adventurers don't piddle on the floor." he said, pointing down at Skye, who was wearing nothing under his tunis.
"Eep!" Skye squeaked. Where was his pull up? He blushed and pulled the tunic down from the embarrassment of being exposed as he was. He paused for a moment before speaking again."Umm…it's okay, I'll just hold it."
"It's a long, long way to the potty." the man explained. "Many, many hours. Do you think you can hold it in that long?"
Skye looked up at the man, worried. "Um…" he didn't want to admit that he knew he couldn't. In fact, he already had to go, and was squirming a little.
"So take this! It will offer you protection from whatever's out there. Oh, and leaks, too."
Blushing, Skye knew the man had a point. He gave in and put on the diaper. And the man was right, he felt a lot safer already. "Um…t-thanks." he muttered quietly, and scurried off to continue his adventure.
But only after just a few steps, he started to feel something very warm, and very wet. Embarrassed, he had to go back to the man.
"Um…" he whispered. "I-I need a change…"

Skye woke up then, only to find that he had wet his pull-up in his sleep! He got up and had to tell his parents that he had an accident.
While his mother was changing him, he thought back to his embarrassing dream that he would never ever tell anyone about.
"Um…" he started to ask. "Do you think even big adventurers like Link have accidents sometimes?"
His mother smiled. "Of course honey." she said, "after all, you're a big adventurer too, right?"
Skye smiled wide, wriggling his legs as she helped him put on a new pull-up in his sleepy state. "Thanks mommy!" he said cheerfully, and soon he was carried back to bed.
During that night, he had a dream he was a grown-up adventurer like Link, and this time he wasn't wearing diapers. In fact, he didn't have any more accidents for the rest of the night.

Oh, kazootles! I can't believe how long it took me to find the opportunity to read this. *Blush*
Aside from being embaressingly behind on this, I would like to remark how much I genuinely enjoyed it. It had a very special charm about it that I wasn't expecting when coming into it.
The biggest point of enjoyment of this story is how it really captures the joy of childhood. The concept of playing the game and wanting to reinact the game is one of the joys of being young that I miss the most. It was so easy as a tyke to watch something and go right into "Being It".
<LoL!> The part about Skye not being able to bring in the stick he had fashioned as his sword is so like what me and the Mrs. go through with our kiddo. He goes out and finds "swords" and we have to tell him to leave them outside. So, you were 100% spot on in that reference. Makes it a tale in which a little kid and a grown-up can relate with.
Skye's dream reminds me of what happens to me when my mind is stuck on something. You somehow start to dream about it, but it doesn't make sense. And, for whatever reason, your dream self knows that there is something wrong, but goes along with what "Dream World" has decided for you to play out.
The overall message of parental support is wonderful here, too. The true joy of a childhood is to have, well, a childhood. For Skye to have had the day, and night, that he did could only be possible through responsible parents who are good about allowing him to experience life at his own, innocent pace. Children having to grow up too soon is a terrible thing and I like how you have Skye in a very supportive family. Sets a good example and I hope to read more work like this once you feel up to writing it. :)
