A gift for a friend and collegue of old school days.
The family name Schurkus resembles to the german word "Schurke", meaning Rogue, which inspired me for the shield, a raven sitting on a dagger.
The crest shows a bear holding a book, protecting it with his paw, accenting his future profession as a Chemist and love for scientific proofs and facts (we have splendid discussions about ghosts and paranormal activities). The helm itself is not a barred one, which is reserved to aristrocracy in German heraldry, but a tilting helm, which is used in modern days for citizen and patrician coat of arms.
