Lovely image. I really like the atmosphere in this, how you were able to make it dark and dreary without necessarily making it foreboding or threatening. Like you said, ambient, even though it could so easily have gone a different direction. Great work. :)
I just came back from bow hunting up north in Wisconsin. And this is how i felt every morning on my way deep into the woods at 3 am. Now to put this into perspective.. We have a wolf pack den on our land along with a few Black bears wondering around, and to make things even better there has been a mountain lion sighting here in Wisconsin for the 1st time not 20 miles away from me! Scary shit!
The way you drew the forest, in its varying shades of gray, fits the atmosphere of this piece so well! The branches in front of and behind the wolf make it all the more eerie, and the blue streams of light coming from the wolf's eyes adds a sense of calmness (as opposed to a sense of alertness with red eyes). Another beautiful and well done piece!

That all came to mind when I saw this. It's very cool. I like how it looks all misty as if it really wouldn't be there if you didn't look hard enough. It'd be cool to see this thing again in another work in the background because you don't want people to forget. :P
