How a fancy bird of paradise griffin ended up in North America is a long story. Ranger Harrell has his talons full trying to keep him from getting killed by various hostile forces. While Harrell is disgusted by Kwap's lack of physical prowess, he eventually grows to respect his determination and ability to think outside the box.

Kawp's design is not a specific bird species, but a mosaic of several, mostly blue bird of paradise and twelve-wired bird of paradise.
