The three main characters-- Ranger Harrell White-shoulders, Investigator Kwap and Tirrsill. Ranger Harrell isn't the brightest bulb on the tree, and tends to solve problems by ripping the problem into several peices. But he has a very powerful sense of duty and propriety, and he's definitely someone you'd want on your side in a fight. Investigator Kwap is just the opposite, and is used to getting by on his keen mind and good looks. Tirrsill is very young, barely out of adolescence, and her first assignment as an adult is to accompany Harrell and Kwap on their mission. She is very clever, but so timid and inexperienced she is a liability in a fight.
