My colleague has a slight case of Ornithophobia and tends to tease me about my interest in them.
So I printed this and put it up at my place at work today.

At that size they are going to have a hard time handling the recoil of anything more powerful than a .38 Special or .380 ACP. 9mm Parabellum would be the upper limit.

.45 ACP/.357 Magnum class pistols have a notable kick.

The in-flight guns are not very powerful compared to ours. To get around that they'll sometimes use ground-based weapons, or special delay-explosive rounds designed to blow up inside the target. But generally the repulsor field devices developed by the griffins and their allies can stop any bullet, at least for a while. The repulsors are very energy-intensive, and can only handle a limited number of hits before failing, so most griffin battles against armed foes are very fast, trying to overwhelm their opponent before they take enough hits to use up the repulsor's power.
