Hey Fisk, was a pleasure meeting you at VF, I hope you'll be at Howl in November, be awesome to meet up with you again.
More to your point: You said we're not all like that...I guess it very much depends what you mean by "that".
Do you mean "We're not all those creepy Klingons at star trek conventions?...Because that we kinda are. To the general public anyhow. When we suit up, we have to take the bad with the good. Thankfully, there is a lot of good to outweigh the bad.
Do you mean "we're not all sex crazed maniacs who screw in fursuits?" well...Some of us are, some of us aren't. The reality is, we're all (or should be) sex-positive people. People have all manner of kinks and ideas about what makes a good time. If that includes leather for one person or fursuits for another, so be it.
Or do you more simply mean "we're not all drama llamas"? I for one have seen my share, hell, even been involved. Part of healthy friendships/kinships/relationships of any sort is the things about each other that drive us simply crazy. In the end, I think most of us grow up and begin to compartmentalize these things into categories and rate their severity and impact we should allow them to have on our lives.
What I've found, since Vancouver Island has reinvigorated herself into a full-blown furry community, is a lot of different people from many walks of life. But we have a lot in common, most of us. I can't say I'm best friends with everyone here, but what I've witnessed is amongst our community, our group has blossomed into a whole myriad of friendships of every sort. I don't think anyone, even the most jaded among us can say they didn't find someone to be friends with at these meets and gatherings. I have met some of the closest people in my life through the furry community, and what a beautiful thing to find in such an unlikely place.
Now, we're just a microcosm of a larger community that I know is out there, and but a drop in the bucket among people who will share similar stories with you. When you're feeling down about the negatives, reach out and they'll share back with you. Because we're out there, we're right in front of you and all around you. Don't close your eyes to the goodness in people, even furries but like anything else, its never perfect.
If we knew not war we would know not peace,
Without crime there would be no justice,
There is no good without bad.
Balance gives us perspective.
Look forward to seeing you soon buddy.

Its not what we should be, it was strictly an outward view.
People can be whatever they want, and do the things that make them happy.
But it would also be good, for those who want to keep things to themselves that are private or otherwise.
To not associate those things with the Fandom itself.
We don't want to take the fun away from anybody, so why not keep a good respectable, kind, accepting image.
By keeping things not entirely publicly acceptable, to ourselves and loved ones.
We can accept others, and what others do (as we should!).
But I think we should leave an opening approachable enough for others to accept too.
This was a matter of public view, not the morality of the Furry Fandom.

Its not like I don't agree though,
Our greatest strength is our diversity and acceptance.
Where anyone can find someone they relate too.
That's why It's so important to showcase it.
If we all tried hard for this to shine, it would make it better for everyone.
Isn't that worth fighting against a stamp that groups everyone into a bad reputation?

Finally watched this! All I can say is keep in mind WHY we do it. Its for fun. Yes, there will be idiots as in any fandom, but do it for YOU! You don't need to represent a damn thing, just be you, and veer away from the folks that urk you. Have as much fun as possible, and don't take this shit so seriously. The fact that it bums you out is saddening, and shouldn't be that way! Most of these people are kids who don't know a damn thing about life. You have a good head on your shoulders, so you feel more annoyed or out of place. Embrace that side of you (not the annoyed side, the fun-loving, silly pants side) and don't forget to...
