A go pro still taken from my helmet just above Steelhead Falls in the Narrows section of the Lower Gorge of the White Salmon. One of the most beautiful canyons on Earth, this gorge was pretty much inaccessible by raft until recently because of Condit Dam. The dam was removed from 2011-12 and we were able to raft that section legally for the first time back in 10/2012. I'm pretty sure this is my first run on Steelhead Falls, a daunting riverwide ledge with an extremely retentive hole. Below it lies a fast narrow section with lots of sketchy wood. We raft it commercially currently, but we portage this drop.

As far as this particular section goes: You can, but the sooner the better. As soon as high water comes in, we anticipate that the narrows will fill with logjams again, not that it isn't already full of logs, but right now it's doable. This time of year, we don't really know when the next big high water flood is going to happen. I'd like to think that it won't happen till spring, since the mountain is pretty bony looking and the highest water is usually a result of rain falling on snow (when there's a lot of it) in the spring, but there's a lot of wood that could move around and come into play down there even if it just comes up a few feet.
But not to worry! The rest of the white salmon will be raftable basically year round, and it's all awesome. There's an upper section that's epic this time of year and should be good to go for a while, and has way better rapids than the lower gorge. And the middle is kick ass balls to the wall awesome at high water so there's really never a bad time to come down and raft around here. This is just one of the rivers, there are dozens of them.
