((Update 7-18-18 : Link to Known Temple! Mt. Rydon Temple ))
((Updated: 2-2-2018))
Aside from the information on the map you might notice a ruler/sizing guide is not present; this was deliberate so as not to confine people to the limits of a size in their country. (For all intents and purposes, 50pixels is 5km fi you neeeeed a more solid idea)
Habitat: varies from Province to province. The borders are rather vague but many consider themselves one of four major city nationals. The Eastern City, Northern Wilds, Southern Plains and Western Woods. ALMOST Any kind of climate can be found here; Volcanic, tundra, forest plains hill-country, etc. Deserts, however, are in short supply.
Religion: Yes. This world is polytheistic.
Prominent Households have their own "House Guardian" or House God/Goddess. They are the 'saint' of the house, if you will. Travelers might have a God of Speed or one of Protection for a military family.
Regional Problems:
High Degree of Class Separation throughout the continent. Some (Southerners or Easterners) even hold slaves. It is lesser in the eastern mines, but still a problem for some. Most don't mind; they are given shelter and often do not have a problem with the arrangement. Some poor families will even give up children to the richer families to raise to ensure their bloodlines continue and the children are fed and live through the FourthWinter*.
*Fourthwinter is the change, every four years the Winter lasts a full 12 months. Most plants and trees survive well and have adapted to this and show signs when winter is going to be long.
Northerners are used to the long winter, as they live in it for most of their lives. Southerners are used to the flooding which inevitably happens after each Fourthwinter. Easterners deal with Volcanic activity and tremors. The lucky westerners have little but the occasional tidal storm making it the most pleasant and easiest place to leave.
Society: Matriarchal. (since 927-RD.**)
Most parts of Rumeria are Matriarchal exempting the farthest eastern shores where the Blue-eyes Plague* did not reach its foreboding fingers.
*(913 RD.) Blue Eyes is a plague which attacks the males' immune system and liver, causing jaundice of the skin, hair loss, and Eye Pupils to turn blue, along with severe fever. also known as the Son-Stealer Plague.
It wiped out the majority of the males in the continent, even reaching the Northerners. It is transferred through the mucus membranes and blood-contact. Fleas and mosquitoes made the disease travel. The sulfur int he far eastern town kept most from catching the disease as many pests do not like the high heat and sandy beaches of the peninsula.
The society, before 900 RD. was patriarchal, however, when the disease wiped many out, the belief that Vicii (Sun God, head God of the pantheon) began to fall to the theory that the Moon Goddesses (Iifreva) was angry and sent the Blue-eyes plague to shame her father for his misguided ways.
Noted Gods: Cadar - A Large cervine-like male, depicted in white and red robes with horns adorned with ribbon. He is the guardian of Fourthwinter nights and the finder of those lost int he cold. He brings gifts at the end of Fourthwinter to those who have stayed loyal, fair and kind to one another. He brings news of the coming First Spring. (basically the equivalent of Rumerian Santa Claus)
Dates to note:
Current Date: 970 RD. (2017 - First Spring Festival Time!)
Last Fourthwinter: 969 (2016 Earth Year)
Date Rumeria Established as Open World: 967 RD. (2014 Earth Year)
Societal Revolution- 929 RD. (post-plague)
Artistic and Scientific Revolutions - 719 RD. (-to Date)
Peace With all Provinces - 708 RD.
First Continental War - 693 RD.
Iron Age - 513 RD.
Agricultural Revolution - 448 RD.
Common Punishments for minor to major crimes: Community Service, Title Striping, Lashing, Indentured Servitude, Branding. Traitors are hanged with extreme prejudice.
Superstitions: Any blue-eyes males were immediately killed upon birth by their mothers for fear that they would bring back the plague. This superstition has caused much uproar by the easterners who disbelieve the plague could ever return. But southern diplomats insist it has resurfaced in recent years and continue the practice. ( No one of southern decent has blue eyes. EVER for this reason. )
Important places:
Ravenhall; the richest township in the Crosslands, the major province where all four connect. (on the map its in red)
Northern Pass; it is made of the ruins of a wall, citadel and temples near the mountains, on them in fact. The ruins have made a path out of stone between the mountain ranges up to a mile wide in some places.
Races: Any. any race is permitted to go about their way in these lands. Looks are nothing to hold against people in this place.
Magic: All magic . Potions, alchemy, wands and wizards are all able to use their powers here. Most find their powers enhanced when in the far east, said to be the fount of power for the continent.
Sexual/Gender: transgender are abundant as males are very rare since the plague. There are even caravans of males that go from town to town still, spreading their... joy...to the mostly female population. Many couples are polygamist and share a male with many wives to keep the population on the increase. All sexualities & genders welcomed.
**RD. = Recorded Date. The first year was the first recorded date when the sentient species first began to take down the patterns in nature and time.
NOTE!!! For any more information on the areas on the map please NOTE or comment and I will fill in the blanks!
