"Doctor" Key (the tiny deer in the picture) on the surface is a seller of a quack patent medicine, and he lives in a highly unusual house that has a lot of renovation work being constantly done, and he goes through secretaries pretty quickly. He's pompous, vain and short tempered.
He also has some rather unpleasant sides to him, too, which the story reveals.
