Kitty is wearing a "sack" dress, or Robe à la française. You can't tell it from the painting but the dress has a large pleat hanging down from the neckline in the back forming a train. I had a lot of fun here getting the lace and ivory fan looking right. LOL, not much of a background but I wanted the painting to have a theatrical feel anyway. Another ACEO - I really need to get some larger work done.
