Some paths cross in life and part ways, others become entangled with your own or leave their mark in indelible ways. It's always unexpected and something that would leave you with a void if suddenly removed. My path recently crossed with such a spirit, whose ..in a word..vitality has been a fount of inspiration for me. You can't put this into words and maybe it needn't be but I am just grateful for the chance to know this person and to watch them bloom.
Thank you Maquenda.
I painted this without expectation of it ever going anywhere. I think more than anything I just wanted to paint something without knowing what would come of it. The bonus was that something did turn out and I had a great time seeing it through. Sometimes spontaneity reminds you why you love creating and sometimes you need to be reminded.
A random thought to add. When we look at birds and their not so infrequent abuse(;D) of the color spectrum, we regard it as natural..because it is. Mammals are not wildly colored and hence I think when we see fantasy depictions of mammalian animals garbed in vibrant pigments, we often can't bridge the gap of disbelief(and frequently to great effect). But, I guess that's why when I sought out to paint her, I pictured her feathered instead of furred -though this is a recurring vein in my work.

Wow you did a really fine job of making her character's color palette believable. It is true that we can look at a colorful bird and perhaps not give it a second thought - but with mammals it is a rare occurrence indeed. The textures present in this piece also lend credence to the believability of it - the texture in the horns, on the feathers, and within the cherry blossom branches. Fine work Balaa. :)
I'm in the train on my way to school now (in the cabin in which you need to be quiet so I can't scream out loud! xD) but wowwwww what a surprise! It felt like my heart stopped beating when I saw the thumbnail...;___; I really love the idea of her having feathers! I wish I came up with that! It's very inspiring and I might add that in her design, as I love birds...
Thank you for being such an amazing and kind person! I really have to do something in return because you gave me so much already!
I suck at making good comments, but I will hopefully talk to you soon again so I can thank you personally!

Wow ! So amazing !!! I fall in love with this drawing, and I loove the idea of the feathers too !!! Maquenda is a so adorable person, she deserve a so beautiful Portrait !! ♥3♥
I never take the time to say how much I love the artists artworks, How I can be inspired by poetry and feelings in a good artpiece, and in every drawing by you, I feed this same life, as if we could hold out the hand and touch the details, feel the sensations...
I started in a bad day with bad news, and this simple drawing, full of tenderness and love, erased my negative feelings. :)

Words can't really convey how beautiful this painting is. The combination of tiger, feathers, horns and the color purple comes together so naturally through your skills, it's just amazing And from all the magnificient details it's the opal-like eyes that enchant me the most
Such a "short" time for such an astounding piece! Almost three days later and I'm even more enthralled than I was on day one. I'm sure that you tap into something pure in your creative process as this image wonderfully illustrates. In fact, it elicits more lovely emotion than words in reaction. I honestly find it difficult to comment on your creations for this reason, being lost in an awestruck haze just trying to find suitable words of appreciation. Have a most wonderful weekend.
Oh wow... I was gonna say, from the thumbnail, I actually thought this was Maquenda... and then come to find out... IT IS.
You made her very recognizable, and yet still kept her all in your own style. But brought just the right amount of life to her.
This is gorgeous, and beyond amazing.
I think Maq is a huge inspiration to all of us... but most of all, she's been one of the greatest friends of mine, too.
Im blessed that she's been with me through all these years, and considered me a sort of... "net-sister".
I've learned A LOT from her over the years, and I owe a lot to her.
But you know... THIS... this artwork says it all.
I could never quite pull off the majesty that this piece does. But it does her some great justice... it's beautiful.
And though Im not the artist of this piece, I am glad that you did art for her, and did it well.
Im happy that she enjoyed it. <3

I have a brush I use with the smudge tool that creates smooth gradient transitions that with a little practice can achieve a lot of really cool effects(for example blurring out areas in a way that preserves/enhances a sense of depth). But I also painted some textures over top of that and used a layer mask to isolate the textures to the branches C:. It gave them a little more pop and depth that way too!
in case ya don't have the brush (think I may have sent it to you before but not sure), here it is: http://nebezial.deviantart.com/art/.....brush-78999414 ..and if you haven't seen this guys stuff, GH^$FB&%FGUYU spend an hour or two doing so. He is the epic of epic ;_;.
funny thing about this description that you have for the painting about points of life crossing other and leaving marks on other peoples lives (even if they dont know it). idk if you know this, but somebody on youtube used this it for a song track i held dear when i was younger, its been removed since. but know this art has a special place in my heart from it. Im glad i've finally come across you, the artist who made this beautiful piece so i can appropriately appreciate it.
