I lurves it!! <3 (Took me years to finally get it, and had to have it imported from the Sun Cycle Center in FL, via BightFlights.com.) This bike has allowed me to actually start biking again, which is a BIG deal, because my health issues had prevented it for so many years. Now I bike every day that I'm able to, whenever the weather permits. All other bikes I had tried either hurt my back, butt, shoulders or wrists, and I could only ride for a short time before giving up. Now I can bike for 30km or more, no problem, no pain at all, and I use the engine mainly to get up hills (hills that I would normally have to walk my bike up), and turn it off on the flat stretches.
The bike is a semi-recumbent ("crank-forward" style) Day 6 Journey, small frame, in dark champagne (though it looks grey here), and the engine/battery is from OXYDrive, bought separately. The seat is a Contour Seat kit, which comes with a back rest and storage pack, and is by far the most comfortable bike seat I've ever sat on (no butt pain AT ALL, no matter how long you sit on it!). I still have to install the rear rack, and may add a basket to the front (haven't decided yet), plus a headlight, brakelight, rearview mirror and waterbottle holder before it's all complete. :) Anyway, just had to share, because I'm so happy with the newfound freedom it's given me! :D

Here is their cheapest model: http://www.day6bicycles.com/dream7.html (I had to pay a lot more than that to import it, due to shipping and customs fees.)
Yeah, that bike really does look really comfortable. I confess I've never really ridden a bike before, but perhaps once my life gets settled I'll bug the other half to teach me, heh.
That's great news to hear, by the way. Being able to be out and about whenever you want is often taken for granted by many.

It's a bit tricky to get started, but you'll catch on in no time. :) The nice thing about this style of bike is that you don't sit perched high up on a skinny little bike saddle, where only your toes touch the ground. This bike has a low, semi-laid back sitting position, so both your feet stay firmly planted on the ground. I've never had such good balance on any normal bike, so I feel much safer and stable on this one. And we've been biking all over the place here now, exploring forest paths and quiet roads...places I never could have walked to, because they are too far/deep in, and you can't park near them. So I've been able to see far more nature now than I ever did just walking! :)
That looks really awesome! I want to get back into bike riding, but getting over the physical hurdle of out-of-shape-ness is still daunting me. I wonder if having a properly sized and outfitted bike would make that doable instead of torturous. I'm so glad you're outside so much more now!
Yep, that was my problem too...I hadn't biked since my teens, and was (am!) completely out of shape. Biking on any normal bike hurt so dang much, I couldn't even bear to get over the hurdle of "getting used to the pain of biking again", as they say you will after awhile. Nope! I mean, what's the point of biking if it's just torture, and you can barely even get down the road, and the next day, you're too sore to try again at all, so you can't get any exercise anyway? The bike just goes in the garage and gathers dust. That's when I starting researching in depth about comfort bikes, with seats and sitting positions that didn't kill folks who already had bad backs, bad knees, were out of shape, overweight and had BIG BUTTS that simply could not fit on a normal, skinny bike saddle. I knew I couldn't be the only one facing this issue! That's when I came across semi-recumbent bikes, and it looked perfect. The Day 6, for instance, was created by a fellow who had injured his back; he made it for himself, because he couldn't ride normal bikes anymore, and he got so many comments on it, he decided to go into business making them. Recumbents are great too, but they're really only for folks who don't have bad knees and can stand from a semi-lying position, because they are so low (which I can't do), and they also have low visibility, for both the biker, and passing cars (they often can't see you biking next to them), and they can't get up onto curbs well. I'm not sure where you're located, but there might be a dealer near you, and most dealers will let you test ride, so you can see if it works for you. :)
That's a pretty bike. I tend to think of retirees in Florida riding those semi-recumbents to the early bird special. Maybe that's just me.
Where I live it would be totally impractical. You need at least a hybrid just to ride most of the roads, much less the trails. Though I saw someone today with what looked like a track bike with eensy-weensy composite spokes at a trailhead.

wow...that seat looks comfy. I don't think I've ever seen a bike with a backrest (other than recumbents) before. Heh, this is making me miss my bike, I haven't used it in years, and it's probably unsafe for use now (it lives with my parents...I think...I don't really have room for it here).
