The first time , when I've noticed that the reality isn't such any epic as the sci-fi movies, was during playing the Orbiter Space Simulator.
While your sci-fi ship can just straight start from the earth's suface and head on a straight line towards the orbit and pass it by,
in the Rl your ship would instead getting slown down in the orbit and even pulled back.
And that if you try to reach another one planet, you get annoyed by the fact that they aren't static on the sky but you need to find a rondevouz course,
if you don't like to miss it during the flight.
And no sound out there.

Even stars move. Their true positions are not where we see them. Even galaxies move.
However having planets move within a scifi game while allowing players to travel from one system to another would be an awful lot of data to keep track of. Also we can blame George Lucas for the whole sound in space thing.
*doesn't get why starfighters and starships have to bank their turns*

As fun as KSP is, I think spending so much time on Orbiter ruined it for me. I've spent way too much time wrestling with real astrophysics to be satisfied by the theme park version X3
Also I haven't done multiplayer yet, but if I did I'd probably end up channeling Gene Kranz the whole time <v<.
