prepare for a wall o text on this one. i gots TONS to say about this picture.
info and just general backstory.

TL;DR version is i made some bitchin ass art. took 3 days. these two are adorable as all fuck.

OKAY! now for those that like to read about characters and pictures n stuff!!



the paler man is Prince Vaine, the other is Veksan his Omniguard.
and when he isnt loyally following alongside him everywhere he goes, protecting him and being his best friend he is also his lover.

Veksan came to the kingdom a year ago, seeking sanctuary. the royal family didnt know it at the time but he was a wanted man from his kingdom for war-crimes and treason. (of which he was innocent of)

Vaine is one of 5 brothers. and one of a set of triplets. even a prince isnt exempt from hardship and he has had many, most his life he spent in a prison reserved for the most vile (wont get into it) but after he got out, he was not like the rest of his brothers or family. he was socialy inept, quiet, stoic. and to top his solitude off, he is also a seer. but with being a seer comes a mighty power that drains away his mind every time he uses it. so while he is a brilliantly bright individual he isnt completely there.

these two met and Veksan having a very special kind of heart took to him right away and they became friends. and not long after Prince Vaine made him his right hand. naming him Omniguard of the Leviathan order. Veksan has taken to the role completely and would do as commanded without hesitation.

one night, Veksan was idly talking with the royal healer Eil'a. they spoke of romance and she asked him where his interests lay. he confessed that since his last wife (whom he had to leave behind with his two sons when he escaped his land) he hadnt quite looked to fill the space back up lately. she teases to him the idea of having anyone he wished, and jokingly offered the idea of his prince. Veksan admits further that he actually is male prefferenced...and that the idea has been entertained before, but he had no idea how his princes interests lay. and that he had no wishes to be strung up for propositioning his highness. she gushes over the idea but drops it.

but now its on his mind every time him and his prince talks...every time his prince greets him smiling and with a warm embrace his heart skips a beat. he quietly chastises himself to be more professional. and he finds himself subconsciously steering the conversation to more romantic topics, putting him in the strange place of supporting his prince to go find a lover. but one night his prince lets slip the phrase "..i dont rightly care if i meet anyone. if i ever were to meet a man or woman that wanted me though i suppose i shouldnt complain". curiously he asks his prince what he meant by men. his prince says he doesnt mind either and again his heart leaps. but he squashes the impulse back again.

his prince has nobody in this world, not one. only he was his friend, and he felt a pang of selfishness for wishing to put that at risk. if it didnt work out it was his prince that would suffer. so he resolved that he wouldnt speak of his feelings.

but before he could, his prince pauses quietly for a moment before asking "friend..?..may i ask you something?"
Veksan asks him what is it.
but his prince quickly retracts himself and says "..n..no its nothing. nevermind"
Veksan feels a tiny leap inside and asks him "what is it??"
his prince shakes his head and starts to look anxious and says "just forget it. it wouldnt work......im sorry friend i..i messed up" and pulls away saying " im sorry i..i should go"
Veksans mind starts spinning with ideas. what it is his prince had wished to say. did he have feelings as well? was his prince struggling with the very same thoughts he had himself? did he wish for more? it was a stretch but if there was even a chance it was true, he couldnt let him run away. he couldnt let his prince suffer in the deafening silence of a unconfessed heart.
so in a bold leap of faith veksan whispers softly "..please forgive me...if i have misread you my prince.." and pulls him close and kisses him softly. heart pounding like a hammer for a terrifying few seconds as his lips met with his Princes.

his prince held into a tight embrace.

"..can this really work?..i mean...with what i am....what if this is a bad idea.."
Vaine has fear and doubt. but veksan insists that they give it a try. that it didnt matter if they were lovers or friends, that he would be at his side regardless...so why not be lovers.

since then, they have grown closer and closer. but Veksan never stepped down from his role as his princes sole protector and guard. by day he serves as the right hand and does all he is bid. but alone or by night they are simply lovers, holding each other tenderly, for a while they loved in secrecy.

but they always sleep together. even when his prince is unwell, or sad, or injured. his loyal Guard is always at his bedside. to love. to protect.
