Cold Climates and Warm Company: EPILOGUE

To say Rene and Nicole’s snowbound adventure ended on a high note would be an understatement.
It was a happy, whistling vulpix that strode through the Blackclaw residence that evening as the helicopter deposited himself and a certain nidoran back to where their weekend began.
“You’re certainly cheery.” Nicole observed as she stretched. “Should we show ourselves out?”
“You go.” Rene told her. “I just want to thank Nikki again. I’ll be right with you in a minute.”
“Okay…” Nicole sighed. “I’ll be waiting with the cab.”
Rene waved and made his way through the halls until he found the cat in question. “Nikki? Are you in—HURK!” Rene looked away as he seemed to have caught her in the middle of some stretching routine she was doing by the window. His legs hurt just watching her as she bent one leg over her head.
If Nikki was embarrassed…which she never was anyway…she covered it well. “Rene, I was starting to wonder about you…you’re overdue.” She observed dryly as she continued her calisthenics.
“A snow storm kept Nicole and myself at the lodge over night.” His tone became deceptively neutral, once he’d recovered from what he’d seen. “Surprised you didn’t hear about it.”
“Weather channel isn’t my thing.” Nikki shrugged, or given her contorted state gave the approximation of a shrug.
“I would’ve thought CORBIN would keep you informed.” Rene stressed the name of her skiing instructor, the abomasnow Rene had found hitting on Nicole. “Odd thing though…he made a pass at Nicole.”
Nikki gave him an even look. “If you think it’s odd that a guy would make a pass at a girl then you really DON’T understand the dynamics of the gender you wish to emulate.”
“Regardless,” He said a touch irately as he walked in and stood next to her. “It does beg the question…what’s your game?”
“Solitaire.” She answered blandly. Rene rolled his eyes.
“Oh come ON Nikki. I’m shy, I’m awkward, and maybe even a little naïve…”
“A LITTLE?” She looked at him questioningly.
“MY point is,” He rubbed his eyes. “Is that even I’M not THAT naïve! First I win the Homecoming election along with Nicole and then a major snowstorm JUST happening to crop up when Nicole and I am up at Mount Coronet? A trip that YOU planned? There’s no way those were just coincidences!”
Nikki didn’t answer. She just finished her routine and straightened herself up. “Nice detective work Nancy Dewgong,” A dry sarcasm that couldn’t have been missed easily evident in her words. “Yeah, I COULD have said this or done that at homecoming and yes, I MIGHT have told Corbin to make a pass at other Nicole to see how you’d react.” Nikki stopped. “And if you say that stupid clichéd line of ‘What, don’t you think my girlfriend is pretty enough to get hit on without being told to?’ I will drop you right here and now.”
“Noted.” Rene winced. Nikki continued.
“…And I’m flattered that you think I control the weather, but have to ask why you’d be so delusional as to assume that even if I COULD do all these things, why I would do them all for you?” She finished, raising an eyebrow expectantly.
Rene rubbed the back of his head. “That’s sort of what I came here to ask you.” He mumbled. Nikki gave an extravagant eye roll and grabbed her towel from off the railing.
“Seeing as this is a hypothetical conversation, I suppose I could answer that maybe it’s a simple case of noble largesse towards a particularly hapless vulpix. I could answer that you’re suffering from delusions of grandeur for assuming that I’d spend that much time and thought on you…or maybe I could say that it was just so refreshing someone who was willing to give me the respect I’m owed.” She shrugged. “Personally though, I just think you’re paranoid and desperately in need of professional help.”
“…Riiiight.” Rene nodded. “Well…thank you. Whatever you’re reasons.”
She nodded. “Good. You’re welcome. Now do you want to walk yourself to the door…or shall I have Tenebra show you out?” She raised a questioning brow.
Rene shook his head quickly. “Uh, no no! That won’t be necessary! I’ll—we’ll—just be going now. Heh. Thanksagainbye!” He practically ran out.

Meanwhile Nicole had made her way outside the Blackclaw Residence and walked outside the gates where the cab was waiting. The nidoran blinked in surprise when she saw that she had company.
“Hey girlfriend!” Romano winked at her as she and the rest of Rene’s Team Turquoise stood waiting for her. “What’s shaking?”
“What’re you three doing here?” Nicole yelped.
“Rene phoned us on his cell when you two were flying back.” Sam shrugged. “You must’ve been sleeping or something. He gave us a brief run down on what happened. Just thought we’d ask you how your date was.”
Nicole sighed. She hoped to at least wait till she got home until she got interrogated. “Nothing happened we just slept together and....” She was cut off by the massive cry from all three Turqs:
“YOU WHAT!?!”
“Crap that didn't come out right.” Nicole groaned. “No I mean we were in the room all morning..”
“Alright! I was hoping this story was gonna get good.” Romano grinned.
Rahne blinked “Rene REALLY left out a few details.”
“Nothing like that happened honest. We just waited for the snow to melt.” Nicole tried to explain.
“No reason to be hard on yourself girl. I bet he warmed you up just fine.” Sam comforted her teasingly.
“Jeez I thought MY family was bad.” Nicole groaned.
“Trust us babe, this is just the BEGINNING!” Sam promised.
