I love rust monsters! Ever since I saw them on the third edition's monster guide, chewing happily on a sword, I've fell in love with them. They're too cute I want one as a pet. Unfortunately I'm also the kind of player who love wearing plate, so it also kinda sucks, but I don't blame them for their hunger, I blame the deliciousness of metal.
I was on the play test team for D&D v 3.0 - the first edition in which Rust Monsters could do actual physical damage. As I ran a test campaign, one party member, "Patrick" was the first player characrter in history to be nibbled to death by a Rust Monster.
