He's always looking for dead animals/birds/fish and only kills live ones if he's desperate. He doesn't physically put them in his mouth though, he has vines that absorb nutrients from the dead thing he finds. Heck yeah carnivorous plants~
Oh and his body's filled with flowers which I find neat. Hibiscus flowers to be precise! His design/species was created by hyakki-yagyo.
