...everything that spells 'stakeout' for War Wolf.
She picked up the scent of the coffee before she even heard Vesara crossing the rooftop behind her. Showed how much she could use a cup. A full days work, followed by a full night's work, followed by whatever sleep she could muster had long been her normal routine. It helped that she and Janet could set their own hours at DSI, but the last week had been busy, both in-costume and in-skirtsuit.
But that wasn't all. Dreams again. Sometimes good ones of David and Junior, sometimes the ones that woke her up in a cold sweat. Both left her unbearably aware of the silence when she opened her eyes.
She had to get back on Violetta's trail. That's what she came to Colmaton to do, bring that psychotic murderer to justice. It wouldn't stop the dreams, she knew, but it would make opening her eyes a little more bearable.
"Figures something comes up now," Vesara said, spying the car that had just pulled up to the depot across the street as she handed War Wolf the steaming covered paper cup. "Any chance we've got time to enjoy a pick-me-up or is that our guy?"
"We won't know until he makes his move," War Wolf answered, taking a sip of the scalding coffee. Bitter and black as the night sky, just the way she liked it. Or at least the way she got used to liking it back in the Rangers. "We sit tight for now and see if anyone else shows up."
Vesara nodded and propped her foot up on the ledge alongside the wolfess. "I bet Spectra's going to regret missing all this excitement when she gets back from Grant and hears about it," she uttered sarcastically.
"Don't tell me you're the antsy type also."
"No, I just prefer taking down scumbags rather than watching their smug asses."
"The latter makes the former easier." War Wolf took another sip and narrowed her eyes. "Okay, here we go. Got something important for you to do here."
"Great, what is it?"
"Go back and get some chocolate biscotti." War Wolf tapped her cup. "Goes great with black coffee."
Vesara cocked an eyebrow and tilted her head, unable to read the wolfess' face. "Okay, so...if you're joking, that's very un-War Wolf-ish of you, and if you're not joking, I'm thinking of punting you off the roof."
War Wolf chuckled on the inside.
