Every year around spring and summer where I live, we get a ton of honeybees and bumblebees, but we always seem to see this one absolutely MASSIVE bumblebee, or at least one like it. Sometimes it's all black, other times it has yellowish spots on it, but it's always totally huge. It's way bigger than any of the other bumblebees by far, at about a good 2-2.5 inches.
Anywho, it's one of my favorite things to get some shots of, and this is one of my favorites from this year, since it FINALLY held still on the nepeta flowers in the backyard so I could get a good close-up.

It is! Dunno how big or small your hands are, but it's roughly the size of your index finger from the second knuckle to the tip of your finger. You could hear it buzzing around really loudly as it would fly by, or even when it moved from stem to stem. It was a really deep humming buzz.
