In Zi'gi's younger years ( about mid to late twenties) he had attempted to go back to UnderDark and learn how to be a proper drow, since being raised by humans didn't see to have changed anyone's favor of him, because he was still a drow. However, no knowing what house he'd even belong to and basically having no worth, it wasn't long before he was tricked and then auctioned off to whatever house wanted him and had use for him.
Thankfully, his sister, who was the head matron of UnderDark at the time, recognized him and took him for herself, and punished the lot for attempting to sell her brother off as if he was commodity. Zi'gi was thankful and got to learn about his true place in UnderDark should he ever choose to stay, but he knew there was more that he had to do, so instead of agreeing to stay, he promised to visit, took what training he could get to improve his magery, and moved on.
