bitterjackal and I went to the reptile show. As usual we came back with bugs ;p they're on his FA since the 'peeds are officially his. I bought my very first snake today! I was looking at snakes and was going to get a Bubblegum Corn, but looking at this Striped California King made me think he slithered off an aboriginal dot painting. I've not named him yet, was thinking Dingo or Bruce (everyone in Australia is named Bruce! ;p) but not sure yet. Just wanted an ausie name given how he looks.

He ended up with the name Bruce. He's such a little tough guy when he rattles his tail. tries to be nippy. We had trouble getting him to eat at first, but with some coaching on the snakes LJ page and a little rub from his shed skin, he's eating like a pigglet. I'd never seen one like him before ether. I just fell so madly in love. I've had him about 3 weeks now. So he's about 6-10 weeks old, about 12 inches. I forgot to ask when he hatched to the dealer. Was more asking if he's eaten and if he eats f/t pinkies.
My mate's a bit iffy on me getting a bigger snake like a boa. I've been looking at red tails a lot lately. He's worried it'll escape and eat the guinea pigs *L*

red tailed boas make great pets as well. i personally have never had one, but my fiancee has... it shouldnt escape if properlly caged, and as far as nipping and biting, well, thats taken care of with every day handling!
Trust me about that! My lavender corn used to nip at me every time i tried gettin her... then i realized that she shouldnt be eating pinkies, and i moved up to fuzzy mice... then after bein fed properlly, she did not nip me, my sisters, or anyone (even my dad!) any more...
Anyways, if you think you can handle the red tailed boa, get one! They can have a temper at times though... Possibly you should consider a bermese python instead? They get pretty big, just like the red tails, but they can be MUCH tamer.
Let me know, if you want, when you get another one! and good luck!

I know someone with a redtail and loves it so much. That'd be in the future. My next snake will be a corn. Bruce is way to little for fuzzies. he'll be on them in a few months. Young kings are well known for being nippers. The breeder even said he might try to bite. He can't get his mouth around my skin yet.
