An old Lola IndyCar from about 1992-1994 was present at the Auto Show promoting the unfortunately-canceled Grand Prix of Cleveland. Still, they've already been sharp little cars. And fun to drive, as well. A Lola T93 is my car of choice when I go vintage formula racing.
The front and rear wings attached to the car as shown are used on road courses(appropriate given that Cleveland is a road course) and short ovals(ovals one mile or shorter), the car would have smaller, almost nonexistant wings on longer superspeedways. This is part of the reason open-wheel racing is an expensive sport - while NASCAR only needs to alter the position of its fuel pickup when they go between ovals and road courses, open-wheel cars have to have vastly different internal structures and bodywork.

Officials are supposed to visit the area in early June to make a determination. Mike Lanigan has supposedly made a strong case in favor of it, so its very likely it'll be back. If not for next year, then by 2010. The Iowa Speedway contract is apparently unchangable in terms of race date, and since the FAA must approve all choices regarding Cleveland they may have to wait out the Iowa contract(which is through 2009).
Meanwhile, I'll be going to the ALMS race at Mid-Ohio.
