well, yes, you exaggerated a bit (comparing to the official style), but, isn't that your own style? in fact, it looks interesting and cute!!

Those eyes!! I like them very much, makes your pikachu (or in this case the pichu) look like a cat ^o^

About the body of the pichu, makes him look very soft to hug him for a long time.

Well, let's be realistic, in this world there aren't Pichus hanging around, thus, you cannot make a realistic Pichu, the most close to be realistic would be to try to do as the official art.
(Well, that's the way I think ^_^; )
OR... if the pokemon looks like an animal from this world then the realistic would be to make it look like the animal that looks similar.

well, to makes realistic pokemons, i am simply applying the anatomies of real animals to the pokemon, to makes them look like as if they are actual living animals in this world... and since pikachu and pichu and raichu etc are much bigger than mice, i do not make them like mice, but more like similar size animals... like, pikachu is more like a cat or ferret or hamster, so i takes a combination of all of them and make my own anatomy, and apply it to the pikachu, so dat he looks the way he does now when i draws him... also keeping in mind it is an upright creature (stands on two feet alot) so i also makes the anatomy to match a creature dat stands on two feet but also have the capability to run on four... so see, i does makes them as realistic as they can be, without actually being real creatures >wO
does it explaint OK?

well anyway, dat is how i makes things, to be realistic in a way dat if they are actually living here, what they would looks like...
