Those who read my write-up on our meeting with Cathy Weseluck should recall how I mentioned she took a picture of my son and I. Well, turns out she decided to use it for her Twitter post with regard to BronyCon - 2013! Do give it a view at the link above if you have a chance.
If you are not familiar with the story, why not read about the adventures my son and I had with Cathy at the link below.
THE BEST OF BRONYCON 2013 - PART 1: CATHY WESELUCK
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/11269254/
The Staff, Guests, and Vendors at BronyCon 2013 were amazing when it came to all the young fillies and colts who attended. Here are some reasons why and why, if you are a parent, or have a young relative, you simply must bring them to BronyCon - 2014.
During the first Voice Actors Panel on Friday, the BronyCon Staff ensured that all the fillies and colts got first dibs at asking questions to the panelists. My son was nervous as first, but he eventually gathered the bravery needed to rush forward, get found by one of the Staff, and rushed to the front of the line where he did his Apple Bloom impression for Michele Creber. They went back-and-forth a few times before moving onto the next questioner. However, my son did get a big round of applause and he felt super-happy to have had the chance to have fun with the VAs. (Once video is available, I hope to post this for all to see and hear as it is so awesome!)
During our meeting with Maddy Peters (Scootaloo), Maddy took the time to look over at Michele Creber (Apple Bloom), who was sitting right beside her, to bring to her attention how my son was the same age Michele was when she started to get into voice acting and other creative mediums. They both then took a brief moment to encourage my son to keep working on his guitar, drawing, and story telling for, one day, he might be part of a panel like they were.
While meeting Cathy Weseluck, she took time throughout our discussion to go into character as Spike to talk to my son who, as you can see, was carrying around my Spike plushie from work. My son, of course, told her that "My dad is Spike and works in a box all day!", but it was cute and our combined, BronyCon adventure got her to take the picture you see posted here.
Down in the Vendor Area, my son made out like a bandit on both Friday and Saturday! I couldn't find anything I was looking for, which is why I apologize to anyone who asked me to look for things as I couldn't even really find things myself. However, my son got TONS!
For example, on Friday as I waited in line for the promo card, my friend took my son about in search of goodies and my son came back with a sticker that was given to him for FREE! Later, we came across these really awesome looking DJ Pon 3 plushies that, if you were a filly or colt, were 50% off! You better believe dad was happy to pay $30 for his son to get his favorite character in super-duper plush form! Moreover, the Vendor made sure my son got a brand new plushie that was wrapped in plastic. This was good as my son ate food with ketchup and, when we headed back to the hotel, it was raining. :)
At the Snowdrop panel, they gave the microphone to my son before they gave it to me so that he could ask his question. Which, as you may know, was "SPIKE RULES!!!!" Oh, I love my kid.
On Saturday, we discovered that the Crusader Clubhouse was, in fact, a place dedicated EXCLUSIVELY to fillies and colts! It offered FREE Face Painting, Arts and Crafts, and an opportunity to write Letters to Celestia! My son did all three on both Saturday and Sunday!
The Staff at the Crusader Clubhouse was amazing, too! I don't know if I met them all, but I did get them all to autograph my program for they were so kind to all the children and their parents who came in.
At 6:00 PM on Saturday, the Crusader Clubhouse featured a really cool special for the fillies and colts. It was a "Who Done It!" mystery in which featured a volunteer dressed as Apple Bloom. The premise of the story was as follows...
The Cutie Mark Crusaders had devised plans for a new way to get their Cutie Marks. However, when Apple Bloom went to show all the aspiring "Crusaders", she discovered the plans had been STOLEN! It was up to the new members of the CMC to save the day!"
This event turned into a scavenger hunt throughout the room as the volunteers worked with the fillies and colts to find out who stole the plans! In the end, it turned out to be Cheerilee. However, the letter Cheerilee wrote was super cool and filled with hope that, in finding the plans she stole, that all the rusaders would have earned their "Sleuthing Cutie Marks"!
Unfortunately, Apple Bloom did not earn her Cutie Mark. But, as my son proudly shouted, "I already have my Cutie Mark!" :) That's my boy!
Overall, as a father, I was super happy with all the special efforts EVERYONE made at BronyCon to make it special for the kids. They even were asking moms, dads, and the kids how they could do better next year! This fact is largely driving me to want to do next year's BronyCon as, now that I know they are really aiming to make it fun for kids, I want to delight in pony times with my son as he gets a chance to feel like a star. :) Not to mention, I got to meet lots of other mommies and daddies.
A shout out now to the mother of the young girl with autism who I met at the Crusader Clubhouse while my son got his face painted by Apple Bloom. She was very involved with her daughter and shared on how My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic helped her daughter better overcome her autism. I shared with her how she should watch Snowdrop as it is all about the importance a parent plays in the development of a disabled child. Particularly in her case where, like Snowdrop, there is a large emphasis on the Mother and Daughter relationship. Made me think more on my parents and how, without them, I would be blind and doing nothing with my life. Here's to all the mommies and daddies out there who attended BronyCon and the Staff, Vendors, and VAs who made it 20% cooler for all the children.

Super glad you guys had fun. He's freakin adorable. Honestly, as a frequent congoer, it's awesome to see everything go so well for you for your first con. Seems like Bronycon really does have their stuff together (unlike Youma last year... blah) Also, slick shades! Hahaha. No, they do look pretty good. And you're not looking half bad yourself.
Also, I dunno if you're aware of this, but the guy in the photo in the back, I totally thought he was the Joker at first...

<LoL!> Those glasses you see are intended to reduce the light that comes into my dead cornea. They cut a lot of the fog I see on a daily basis by a fair amount while magnifying a bit of the world around me. The added bonus, in which I only became aware of through BronyCon goers, is that I actually look good in them! I also think they do well at hiding my Snowdrop-like eyes. :)
Oh, BronyCon certainly did have its stuff together. I was very impressed and really, really, REALLY hoping I can find videos of the panels for I want to share the clip of my son impersonating Apple Bloom and, if possible, myself at the Snowdrop / Silly Filly Studios panel.
I'm actually off now to see the Cornea Specialist and, tomorrow, my Glaucoma Specialist. Wish me luck as I have been nervous of these appointments. Though, if they go well, I'll be breathing a massive sigh of relief. (We have to drive over 3 hours to get to UPMC's Eye Center in Pittsburgh, PA".
Have a Yoshi day!
SPIKE RULES!!!! ;)

Once again, Yosh, thank you for sharing. God knows that I'd want to attend Bronycon and if I were a parent I would be proud to take my kids there too. Also, I'm aware that those glasses are for medical reasons, but I also think you look really cool in them. They make you look like Serious Sam.

Which is always a good thing in my book. Again, thanks for sharing.

Ooh! Thanks so much for the compliment! These glasses are not only helpful medically, but they also help make my Snowdrop looking eyes not seem so, well, Snowdrop like. *Shrugs and laughs*
BronyCon was great in that people didn't run away from me, or see me as some sort of freak. I'm so used to being treated like a little kid all the time and/or being avoided because of my cane. BronyCon was different and it meant a lot to feel accepted and, more importantly, wanted.
Thanks also for following the BronyCon adventures. I do hope all my entries have given you the ability to feel just like you were there yourself while providing reason, if possible, to make it to next year's convention. :)

Crusader Clubhouse sounds like a good place for little ones to rest their tiny legs after cantering about the convention hall all morning!
Although, Cherilee stealing the CMC's property does seem a bit out of character. I presume there was a misunderstanding of some sort?

Actually, it was good that Cheerilee stole the plans. :)
As the letter Cheerilee wrote to the CMC went...
...I am sorry for having taken your plans. However, after reading them, I knew you'd all get into nothing but trouble. So, I decided I'd create a mystery for you in finding the plans to see if it could help you all get your Sleuthing Cutie Marks...
The original plans must've involved doing some stuff young fillies shouldn't be doing. So, Cheerilee tried to find a way to keep the girls out of trouble. :)
Though, as a side note, the volunteers were quite afraid on how well they could pull-off the Cutie Mark Crusader Mystery. So, next year, I'm sure it'll be a lot more canon and much more fun for the kids. Not that the kids weren't excited to get genuine Cutie Mark Crusader certificates from Ms. Apple Bloom for helping out. :) They individually wrote each kid's name on each certificate as the kiddos collected them. Each was wrapped up like a diploma. Very cute. :)

Hearing all the comments about the glasses make me so happy! I've wanted a way to not struggle so much through my decaying, corneal implant while, at the same time, hiding my Snowdrop eyes. These do both and get me positive attention, as opposed to the normal reactions I am used to from those who first see me. :)
There is no way BronyCon 2014 will ever match up, to me, in quality of what I got out of this one. HOWEVER, for as much as I actually felt welcomed and cared for, I am certainly not opposed to saving as much money as I can to go back and have an even better time with my son. I'm sure he'll still be cool with pony next year and, as such, the good times shall continue until either he is no longer interested and/or the fandom fades. :)
Me, on the other hoof, will always be a fan for this show has done a lot for me on so many levels. My hope is that it has helped inspire you, too. :)

That little Spike had tons of adventures, too! My son brought him EVERYWHERE until we got access to the hotel. He went up-and-down the escalators, in more ways than one, whacked off the walls, and dropped more times than I can count. He certainly had an adventure all his own.
Right now, Baby Spike is back at my desk at work to keep me company amidst my cubicle solitude. He seems different now that he has had a genuine adventure outside of my little space in the world. My son cuddled him both nights of our stay and now he's more a reminder of my son and I than just being my "Desk Co-Pilot" :)
Yup! That's me! Just look for the nerd with the cane and tinted glasses and you can't go wrong. I also think I was the only blind guy at BronyCon as nobody made note of seeing anyone else there with a cane. :) Huzzah! I represented!

Oh, Acara. I had to post so much just to even scratch the surface of what a wonderful time we had.
If you have a sec, check my journal and you can see my son in action! He calls me out, too! :)
Oh, what are your thoughts on the new Nine Inch Nails album? I have quite gotten into Came Back Haunted. Can't wait to hear the rest. :)

BronyCon 2013 was simply amazing. My son and I had a very wonderful time. Especially with Cathy Weseluck.
I wish others could've seen how wonderful she was to my son. She went in character while talking to him and even went into character during the first VA panel after he did an Apple Bloom impersonation. If you'd like I could share that with you.
BronyCon 2014 wasn't quite as good since Cathy wasn't there and the VA I really wanted to meet, Lee Tockar, wasn't there either. I really wanted to meet Lee as we learned at BronyCon 2013 after the fact he is also visually impaired. I really wanted to talk to him about his thoughts on coping with blindness.

Going blind is scary but it is a lot easier when you find a place where you are appreciated. :)
FA is what changed my life for the better since nobody knows I'm blind before they get to know me. They meet the real me first and then I openly share my condition. Though anyone who reads my User Page can also learn I am going blind. I don't hide it since it is a part of me. But a minor part since I know I am appreciated as a writer and writing, thanks to technology, does not require vision to do. :)
Go to 1:03:05 and you'll see my son, Ethan. He gets Cathy Weseluck and Michele Creber to have fun with him, too.

That's what friends are for. :)
When I joined FA I had a lot of wonderful folks help keep my inspiration alive while empowering me to go further with my passion for the arts. The least I can do is pay the favor forward through being there for others who simply need one person to genuinely believe in them by showing how their work, like mine, does matter. It may not ever be super famous but those you touch through your talent is a wonderful reward in itself. Not to mention just the pure joy you get from writing. :)
I was so happy with how Cathy Weseluck was with my son. She was everything I hoped that she'd be. Nicole Oliver (Celestia) was also there and she was very nice, too. A little girl came to ask her a question at the Saturday panel and she sung the song she sings to Twilight after she pulls off the Magical Mystery Cure to her. It was so sweet how she melodically complimented, "Rachel, you've come a long, long way..."
This past year's convention wasn't quite as good with, in my opinion, only Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity / Derpy) being playful. I just hope they post our panel soon.

Woop! I finally got to read the first chapter of your Kingdom Hearts / Care Bears/ MLP crossover. It is definitely a most interesting tale.
What has me curious is Celestia's role in the story and how Noble Heart and True Heart knew to visit Equestria? What brought them to find their way to Equestria? Will there be more adventures in Equestria as the story evolves?
I'm also very interested in knowing how the Care Bears know what Keyblades are? Is this something you will explore later? Perhaps sharing where they may have encountered a Keyblade before?
The story flow is good but I just see what brought True Heart and Noble Heart to Equestria and how they befriended Celestia to be a bit of loose end that would benefit from being explained either in a Prologue or in an edit to the chapter. The same benefit could help with letting folks know how Care Bears know what Keyblades are.
I really like how you touched on Grams Bear being the mom to True Heart and Noble Heart. It is also refreshing to see how this tale apparently takes place amidst the Care Bears Movie 2. Well done.
Keep up the good work! :)

thank you so much for the kind word's on my old story i may go back and redo the story i kind of lost my flow with how i wanted the story to go
oh and just to let you know but Grams Bear is True Heart's mom but she thinks of Noble Heart as her son too
and Care Bears Movie 2 is one of my favorite care bears movie's of all time my grand mother rented it for me to watch on the old VHS back in the day but i lost the tape she had it record on in the move to the new house after she past away so now i have it on DVD along with 2 other care bears movies and the Care Bears family TV show

The Care Bears from the 1980s were definitely a special generation of Care Bears. They genuinely went out on missions to help children know that it was okay to have emotions and feelings. More importantly they showed kids that it was okay to have said emotions and feelings and that sharing them was good for coping with situations.
The second movie is my favorite of the Care Bears lot. The first one was very creative as I even based a villain I created off of The Spirit of the Book. But the 2nd one was just more fun and cute in my opinion.
Honestly, again opinion, I feel the newer reboots of the Care Bears have forgotten about how important it is to show kids that there are kind people out there to whom they can share their feelings with. They seem to stay cooped up in Care-A-Lot or stuck with one or maybe two humans. It just seems like the original message was lost.
Thanks again for sharing the story. It was nice to have a taste of your talent. :)

"Grams Bear is True Heart's mom but she thinks of Noble Heart as her son too" -- Interestingly, this has also been an idea of mine.
I myself would love to see the Care Bears go back to their roots in the '80s -- much as My Little Pony has done in the 2010s. My idea is that the Care Bears and Cousins are humans who were transformed into creatures who can take on animal-like forms. True Heart and Noble Heart are a husband and wife rescuing an orphanage from a Nazi-like power. Grams Bear, like in your case, is the mother of True Heart.
I'm thinking, their original names were "Mary Trueheart", "Michael Noble", and "Sarah Trueheart".
Darkheart might be working on behalf of a greater villain -- redeeming himself when he and his girlfriend (temporarily) sacrifice their lives to destroy the great evil they got seduced into supporting.
Since "PG" often seems to be the new "G", maybe I should go for a PG rating.

Among the Mane 6, I notice some ponies who seem quite relatable to those on the autism spectrum -- especially Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy.
I can relate to Twilight's love of academics and initial struggles understanding friendship. I can relate to Pinkie's love of jumping around and Fluttershy's shyness. I can also relate all three of their past struggles, at times, to control their tempers when something really upsets them. (These moments can be scary to watch, but I have to admit that I could look kind of scary at times as a child.)
