I'm thinking of that mechanism like this;
Scared-inflate things is kind of reflection. Whether he want or not it happens.
And he can inflate himself if he want to. As in the my last comic page the escort mission.
Either way, inflating is instant however deflating takes some time. That's what I'm thinking of this character. :)
