The Best of BronyCon 2013 - Part 2: Maddy Peters - Part 1
ART BY: - My Son!
Prior to attending BronyCon, I asked my son, of all the Voice Actors attending, who he'd want to get a signature from. At first he was leaning towards Michele Creber, (Apple Bloom). However, as I always call him "Scootaloo" when we'd go out for walks and he'd be on his scooter, he decided he wanted to get Maddy's autograph instead. :)
Initially, my son wanted to just get a trading card signed. But, the day prior to the convention, the Mrs. and I told him how special it would be if he made a picture for Maddy. So, that's just what he did!
When we met Maddy, she was super friendly and was amazed to see my son's artwork. She also gladly accepted the copy we printed of it for her.
At the time, Michelle Creber was sitting alongside Maddy and Maddy (Scootaloo) asked my son how old he was. He, being an eager kiddo, of course emphatically answered, "SIX!". This got Maddy to look over at Michelle and state how Michelle got her start around the same age and how, if my son kept at what he loved, he could be just like one of them someday. My little guy didn't quite know what to say, but I'm pretty sure he was smiling pretty wide.
As for the picture itself, in case its a tough translate, it is my son and Scootaloo working the turntables like DJ Pon 3. To each side you can see their scooters ready for when they are going to go off on a Scoot-tastic adventure!
My son has quite often been complimented on his artistic ability for his age, which does no good for his ego. :) However, I'll never forget the first days he and I, when he was about 3, wold sit together and he'd try drawing and making up stories just like I did. It was, and still is, one of our closest bonding experiences as father-and-son. :)
My son is also a HUGE Metroid fan and, as we were at the convention, was convinced he saw metroids floating around. :) <LoL!>

Well, it sounds as though your son had a fun time as well! From what I've heard, PonyCons do tend to be relatively child-friendly at least compared to the horrible behaviour that I've heard attends many Sci-fi conventions...
If you don't mind my asking though, what medium did he use? It almost looks markers, but washedout like a bad scan. Madeline Peters' signature is very clear, however, which would seem to disqualify that possibility...

I actually don't know exactly what my son used to draw and color this picture, because I was at work when he did it. :(
My son does tend to use markers A LOT, though. He also enjoys mixing various pens and whatever else he can most quickly and easily get his hands on to see his vision through.
For Easter last year, the Easter Bunny brought him a HUGE art suit case-like thing that has TONS of nifty art goodies in it. He has a whole series of plastic tubs just filled with art stuff that he'll use as his imagination sees fit.
And, yes, my son had a blast. He wasn't much for waiting in lines, or listening to the panels, but he did have a lot of fun taking in all the neat stuff and cool cosplays. :)
As an added note, the friend who helped us get down there and, in large, was my "Sighted Guide" got to attend Bronypalooza on both nights it took place. He said it eventually became more like a rave, but there were no drugs, alcohol, fist fights, or anything like that at all. The worst it got was everyone had to be told to "Stop Jumping" because they were shaking the building and working loose one of the light fixtures. :) <LoL!>

It made me happy that the Mrs. and I could convince my son to draw Maddy a picture. I know she appreciated it and, now, we're going to frame it to remind him of how awesome it is to delight in the arts. :)
As with your nephew, it's nice to help support a budding talent. :)

I have to keep reminding myself that MLP is a cartoon that is in fact enjoyed by children when the the adult brony demographic is more often than not the most visible. Also it's nice to see how nice the VAs and other people involved in the show are to their fans, especially the youngest.
Indeed. I could go on forever about how nice everyone, especially the VAs and BronyCon staff, were to the kids. They went as far as to even go around asking kids what they'd like to see more of for next year's convention!
A funny moment that happened, which was also super cute, was at the second, voice actor's panel. A little girl, likely not even 10, asked a question and did some impersonations for the cast. There was much applause and d'aww action to say the least.
Soon after, though, the VA for Steven Magnet / Snips (Lee Tokar?) got asked how he kept his voice from cracking / hurting his throat while doing long days of voice work. His answer was, in paraphrase, "I drink lots of water. It's good to keep your throat lubricated.
Needless to say, snickers filled the crowd after his "lubricated" statement and he quickly stated, "Come on, guys! (Girl's Name) is here!" :)
He was playful and not snippy (No pun intended), but it was fun how he got everyone to remember how the little Bronies didn't need to start asking why everyone was laughing. :)
