Although it is early spring in my Equestria dreamscape, it still gets dark fairly early in the evening. By seven in evening Celestia’s orb has already dipped below the horizon.
Applebloom having finished supper was outside in the barn finishing some final chores before heading in for the evening. As she finished securing the barn door she turned and looked up the evening sky. The night was a clear and almost completely free of clouds. There was a little light coming from Sweet Apple Acres windows, but the farmstead is far enough from Ponyville that nights are dark and generally free from light pollution. Tonight the sky looked particularly glorious, slowly the little filly wandered away from the barn when she got about a hundred feet away she sat down and stared up at it.
As she did she racked her brain to try and remember the names of the stars and constellations before her. Until recently she had had very little interest in the stars and planets even though Twilight always seemed to going on and on about them every time she visited. Shoot, even her big sister seemed to know a thing about them and would often talk about planting or harvesting based on when certain planets were at some point in the sky.
For little Bloom all this astronomy stuff had all been grown up stuff but then she’d been possessed by the Deception. She knew that Deception had been desperately trying to seek something in the constellation called the Griffin’s Claw. Something called the Vortex of Heaven. She had never gotten a complete story of what was so important about it. The one time she asked Twilight about it was the only time Ponyville’s Librarian seemed not interested in talking to her about astronomy? The purple unicorn had quickly steered the discussion away from that topic.
Now as she sat there in the dark Applebloom eyes searched the nighttime sky looking for that constellation. She knew that just a couple months ago she had been able to read the evening sky like a street map but now it seemed like those memories were fading and slipping through hoofs like sand. As if they had never been hers. Still she could remember a few. Slowly she began reciting them.
“Ursa Major, The Pegasus Wing, uh, The Dragon’s Spine, um, Cancer, no that ain’t right um, um,”
Suddenly there was a voice behind her although Applebloom had heard no pony walk or fly up.
“That one is called The Kraken.”
Looking over her shoulder Applebloom found herself staring up into Luna’s jade green eyes. This was rather startling since her next appointment with the Princess for nightmare spell removal was not until next week.
“Princess Luna! Whatcha doing down here?” Said the filly turning around and giving a quick bow. Luna smiled at her.
“I wanted to come down and make certain thou were doing okay after our last session. My last visit was bit more dramatic than I desired. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11184238/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11193874/ Have you been sleeping okay Little Bloom? Have you remembered to do the exercises I gave you?”
Applebloom gave the Princess of the Night a smile and nodded her head, which made the red bow in her mane flop up and down.
“Yep! Slept fine last night and I’ve started doing those breathing things you asked me ta do before I hit the sack. They seemed to be doing the trick!”
“Excellent!” Said Luna. “But I was surprised to discover that you had such a keen interest in the heavenly body!”
Applebloom lowered her eyes and scuffed the dirt with a front hoof.
“Actually, until quite recently I’ve not had much interest the stars and stuff. Oh sure they were pretty and all, but ever since.” The little filly shuddered. “The Deception left me, I’ve thought it might be a what’s the word, um. Prudent! That’s the word! Prudent for me to learn more about how the moon, planets and stars all worked. I mean shoot even my big sister knows how to use them to get things done around here on the farm. And since we know now about, about.” Applebloom’s voice trailed off.
“The Vortex of Heaven.” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8795982/ Said Luna with a serious tone. Applebloom nodded her head in agreement.
“Yeah that. Well if there are things as dangerous as that out there maybe it would be wise if more ponies kept an eye on stars. Who knows what else is out there!” Applebloom looked up at Luna somewhat timidly. “Do you and Celestia know about any other things like that?”
Luna sat down and directed Applebloom to join her. Then draped her right wing over the little filly. She nuzzled the little filly mane then softly spoke to her.
“No neither Celestia or I knew of the Vortex of Heaven until The Deception brought it to our attention. Know this Little Bloom. The heavens filled with many things of great beauty. Many of those same things are by their very nature dangerous for ponies to be near them. However those things are utterly indifferent to us. They neither love nor hate us; they’re simply things that we are wise to view from afar. Even our own Sun and Moon possess the power to render are world dust, but those powers are the same thing that allow Equestria to be such wondrous place. It’s those power that my sister and I wield and help us nurture and defend Equestria.”
“Now you have an interest in astronomy. As I see it fair Applebloom there is several ways you could go about broadening your knowledge. You could spend the next few years with your nose stuck in a book learning about it.” Applebloom made a sour face. Luna continued
“You could ask Twilight Sparkle who would probably be most willing to put together a curriculum that you could follow after you finished your chores and homework.” Applebloom looked even less enthused at this prospect.
“Or I could take you under my wing, so to speak, and tutor you myself. After all I am the Princess of the Moon so I’ve been told by some ponies that I am somewhat knowledgeable on the topic.” She said this in a rather fake hoity voice while pretending to examine the shine on her ceremonial war boots.
“Would ya Princess!” Exclaimed Applebloom. “Thank you, I’d really like that!”
“It would be my pleasure.” Smiled Luna.

Luna wears a crown, neck piece, and hoof covers.
Mare-Do-Well wears a cape, hat, and mask.
They look nothing alike! No! Don't try to use obviously altered photographs to "prove" your ridiculous assumptions! What would one of the Royal Princesses be doing dressing up and acting like a vigilante...?

It has been amusing to watch this friendship grow. Also it is fascinating to see how the ponies living around Sweet Apple Acres have been responding to the now regular visits of one of the Royal Sisters. The Apple family has not made much noise about it, and Luna usually visits after sundown when most farm ponies are getting ready for bed. But still they are aware of the regular visitations and much speculating has been made of it.
