Did I never run this here before? If not, I should have. On the disease front, I've been taking over the counter medication to control the symptoms, and now I feel dizzy and wasted....

I had a BB gun when I was younger, too. Mine couldn't hit anything past about 20m, the barrel was kinda gross and put a nasty spin on BBs. Never tried pellets. Then someone shot me in the leg with his .223. Then my mom found out and she took it away, took away my knives, and wouldn't let my play any computer game that had any violence in it at all. For some reason, I still managed to get into a number of fights at school, but never started them. Now I have guns, knives, and video games, but I don't particularily care for her.
Hehe, my family is full of hunters and sportsmen long back as we can reckon. Yep good ol southern hick family. YEEEEHAW! Er... or something like that. Anyway, so, yeah, guns have always been a part of my life. Luckily, despite being idiots about most things, they were always very very keen on using firearms safely and responsibly. So now, I have a rather noticeable collection of these utilities myself. Thank god for living in the southwest, where guns are still commonplace, easy to get ahold of legally, and the violent crime rate is exceptionally low (you know, compared to places like DC, Maryland, NY, etc where guns are illegal and violent crime is as common as hair).
Oh, no doubt, I was just commenting on the similar design. I think if anything, the reason they look similar is because they both have that crazy look on their face from time to time.
Anouther interesting question is where and how SS manages to get a hold of all the guns and other ordinence he uses, not to mention the buckets of ammo for his bullets. Even if he had a good supplyer then how would he afford it all unless it was 'donated' to him?
Just idle question from someone who never sleeps. :b

Geez guy, I know its only humour but...
You know what societies where everyone has a gun to protect themselves are like, don't you? They're like Albania, Southern Lebanon, or Alberia, where people *are* protecting themselves from each other, all the time. Real freedom is being able to walk down the street and not worry whether there's some nut next to you with a shotgun down his leg or dynamite tied around his waist who's on his way to *protect* himself, his tribe, or his religion.

Cherry-picking straw-man argument, there. I see you carefully left Switzerland out of your armed-citizen states list. Concentrating all of a country's firepower in government hands (which is what a "gun ban" IS, don't forget) rarely ends well. Check out "Great" Britain. Their government banned all civilian gun posession. See how safe you feel on their streets. Didn't work out so well in Germany, either (and Germany in the 20's was one of the most civilized, liberal places around). It's great that you feel you can trust your government with your - well, everything, basically. But times and governments change. Hell, I already went thru all this in my Gun Control Rant. Go check it out, if you haven't already.
Switzerland also doesn't let citizens carry their guns around, or leave them sitting around in the house. The Swiss aren't armed to "protect" themselves from imagined minorities or the criminal element. It's part of their arrangements to create a casual standing army, and I suspect a good number of Swiss wish they could avoid the whole responsibility.
But it is conceivable that a peaceful and civilized society could have a sizable number of armed citizens, who were mainly interested in it for sport, target shooting, historical collecting. I don't know how likely it is that a large number of people would just happen to have those interests though.
My dispute is with arguments that contend that arms are necessary for "protection".

I doubt very much the minority of Jews could have overthrown the third reich if the Nazis were determined to fight them in the streets... as the were willing to fight the "reds". When two irreconciable sides are willing to escalate with no end, and fight to the death, escalation may be the only option that prevents carnage.
If I wanted to be snarky about it, which I don't, I could make a big deal of the current situation in Israel, where the Israelis can't seem to overcome a minority of Palestinians no matter how much firepower they bring to bear on them. I'm not even sure whose point it would support -- yours or mine. The Palestinians are equally incapable of preventing Israeli attacks on their people. It seems to me that armed stalmates are just to be avoided if at all possible.
There's virtually no crime in most places in North America or Western Europe if you come down to it. You can pick up the paper or turn on the news and hear about muggings, stabblings, drive-bys, swarmings, crazed pederastic murders and the whole nine yards. But it's a handful of incidents out of millions of people, and even added up over a year the odds are very great that Spiderman watching over us from the roof of some building would never actually see a crime in the commission so he could swoop down to the rescue.

My first gun was a home-made one-shot pistol my brother made out of a BB gun. He cut the barrel short and used the loading part but modified it to shoot .22 bullets instead of pellets. He made the firing mechanism and the handle from scratch.
The first day we tried it I got shot in the knee.
By the way, Karno, I think I got the cold from you.

Of Course, old friend, you knew you would get at least one hand-wringing cry about this piece of fiction. You also know that I love it. (the fiction and the Liberal hand-wringing) NO ONE WHO WOULD PROTECT IT'S CITIZEN'S FREEDOMS WOULD DISARM THOSE CITIZENS! Oh, Yeah, we must shoot the cannon and 1919 soon!
