When I drew this I was working out anatomy type stuff where jaw structure is concerned. Namely, a snake's lower jaw isn't one piece. The left and right sides are connected at the chin by a ligament or somesuch that lets the sides stretch apart a fair bit. If anyone was wondering why I keep drawing here with that odd bit of line down her chin and lower lip, this is the reason. That's skin that's sort of bunched up when her jaw is closed and relaxed.
Naturally, she can also unhinge her jaw, just like any snake.
At this point, I'm undecided whether to make the tip of her tongue forked or not.

I've been a lil' slut all night and in order to turn a 180 i'm not going to make the obvious comment of...well you know...heh (maybe? ^.^;;) but it's a nice drawing, I like her eyes alot for some reason and as far as the tongue personaly I'd recommend none-forked...just me though ^.^;;
Snake jaws are technically in four parts. The lower jaw can split in two, like you say, and the top jaw can also split in two. Its a bit weird though, because the top jaw stays attached to the skull around the brain and eyes. Its all very weird and cool, and this is an awesome picture.
