What happened to being a 'Zombie'...
The Last of Us hasn't met this 'Zombie' yet.
And yes, I drew my burns. =/ I look like an Infected.

I think 28 days later invented this "infected" stuff and it sounded more "real". Now we're at a crossroads that's a bit like with Vampires. Do you want them to socialise, wear suits and ties, or have glittering skin, or do you want them with freakish long fingernails, afraid of the sun, the cross, and the scent of garlic.
Next will probably be werewolfes. Dragons - already had them, remember Dragonheart and how to tame your dragon?

There's a difference between infected and zombie. Zombie they have to actually be dead. Infected they don't. And yes, it makes all the difference in the world. Infected can still be killed by ANY means, while zombies have to be destroyed (cuz you can't kill the dead). The infected archtype started with 28 days later, so you can thank the makers of that movie for this. :D
Seems like with the whole zombie thing you are infected no matter what. Like in the video game The Walking Dead that's based off the comic? You didn't have to be bit by a zombie in order to die and become one. If you died, you simply came back as a zombie. In the show its like that to. Didn't matter if you were bit, you were already 'infected' and would come back as a Zombie if the brain wasn't destroyed. That's my opinions on zombies and 'infected' =P though there are some games and movies where people are simply infected with a 'virus' and it spreads by either being bit (much like zombies) or you get into contact with them some other way.
Infect first popped up in George A. Romero's The Crazies. Instead of being more zombie like they were like normal people except being absolutely batshit insane. 28 Days Later started the new interpretation of Zombies combining both Zombies and The Crazies idea of Infected. I still much prefer how Romero defined Infected and Zombies.
what i've noticed, infected are basically as they are called. zombies one hte other hand, are mainly dead brought back to life.
both are scary in their own way, it kind of just depends on how you want the scare to be. or something like that, i can't explain things very well.
