The background truly sets a mood on how savage he is. I reiterate your point in which Hak is supposed to be savage, thus contrasting those 'pretty' characters you keep finding. The darkness fits this look, though I also like how you made the axe blade and nearby fur shiny, not only because I like shiny stuff, but also displaying your knowledge on how light should hit objects. There is also the body language, the drool, and the glowey eyes that fit his savage look. Me, though, the braidings and piercings that he had tell that he is not unintelligent.
