I would have to argue that that's not quite as true as you think.

When you are used to a person being one way, significant changes are always awkward, even if said change doesn't really make a difference, or if said changes are even for the better. As a result, these things do take a fair amount of time, such as days, to get used to. The "one minute recovery from your spouse getting a sex change" thing only happens in really godawful pornography. (I know, I know. That is a pretty wide marging consisting of 99.9999+% of porn...)
