It used to be back in the day that at cons no one would even draw Delta, and they all had signs like "no birds!" And when they did draw birds, they gave all of them a cockatiel or parrot beak :/
I think it's because their legs are harder to draw, and its harder to pre-pose them. It also could be more of that dumb "you're technically not fur coated furry" thing that was floatin' around (the ooo hiss scalies and such being excluded from groups)

Ah, that's awful! She's such a gorgeous bird, how could people not want to draw her?
Hrm, you think? Well, I guess it's probably harder to get away with *not* drawing the legs backjointed-- more people draw their legs human-style than I'd realized, and maybe trying to pose the arms/wings is harder too.
I had no idea there was so much tension between different groups! Very new to the fandom, so I guess I just haven't encountered that sort of thing yet; do birds still get that?

Back jointed is so weird for me to draw sometimes, I try to fudge it myself XD With feral its easier.
The bird things seems muted now somewhat, birds are trending and so are mythicals, so its less of it, but I still hear it at cons. It's a bit like high school within some groups but not all of 'em. I do find the birds to be much more social and open, when I meet them at events, and far more likely to step over.

Well that's good to hear that birds are becoming a more common thing! It definitely seems like there's a lot of a sense of community, as well; a couple of birds on here have been really friendly and supportive. It's pretty awesome be be able to bond with people so quickly from so simple an interest :)
Ravens, crows, and falcons and eagles and hawks and such are the most commonly seen. Birds are FAR more plentiful now than they EVER were previously. I think the detailed and in depth avian selection on species menu when browsing is a testament to that fact. In the early days of the fandom typically only goth type fellows went with a bird sona...and usually as a blackbird. While it's true there is still some aversion I doubt you'll EVER encounter ANY outright hostility and if so it would be VERY rare. I think the fact it's MUCH harder to draw avians, coupled with an aversion to beaks (no lips to kiss.) has something room do with it. For some reason though, GRYPHONS are INSANELY popular lately. Seriously they are EVERYWHERE. Also worth noting is that because birds are rarer, the few of us that do exist form tightnit groups and are generally the most friendly, welcoming, and caring furs out there. Some cons actually include "flock" meetings and events for birdies.
mazz even mentioned the.idea of organizing such a thing. :P
So rest assured that avians are on the rise! Fly high! *wing bump* ^v^

You are like the face of birds everywhere, man, you come out of the blue and then vanish like a ninja XD
It's really good to hear that birds are on the rise, I'm definitely noticing the fact that there's a lot of support on the site (like you, you're EVERYWHERE XD). It's a nice way to join into the community.
