Just... Awwwww. Talked Joey (somehow!) into buying this little fellow last Sunday at the herp show in Portland. He's absolutely friggin' PERFECT. What an awesome looking ball python. He's already 2 years old, and about a pound. He'll be bred with our 100% het albino girl, Dr Girlfriend in a year or so, I can't hardly wait!

Ball pythons are SUPER easy to handle as long as you get the temperatures right and they have plenty of comfy snug places to hide. They can be a bit fussy with food, but all of mine are on frozen/thawed rats and usually only go off feed when it's the hormonal part of the year. Really nice little snakes, very friendly!
you named your snake Dr Girlfriend? WIN
I want to go to the portland show! GAHHHH!
All Vancouver has is the pet expo, we don't even have a reptile specific show.
My next snake...I want a hognose. But there is also an albino cali king in rescue, and I'm sucker for the loser animals.
And that is a really cute photo!

Definitely go with a breeder! Unless you have a pet store you REALLLY trust, and not a Petco or Petsmart. Most pet stores unfortunately get their baby ball pythons from importers. They're "captive hatched", not captive born and bred. In Africa, python hunters round up gravid females and throw them into a pit together where they lay their eggs and are then usually killed. They then send the babies to wholesalers who sell them to pet stores. They can have parasites and mites and all sorts of stuff, plus they're more likely to have feeding problems.
So yeah, breeders are the way to go! Plus it's usually a WHOLE lot cheaper.
