A twinkie is a golden sponge cake filled with vanilla flavored cream filling. It has been around since the early 1920's. At one time they once were filled with banana flavored cream filling but switched it during WW2 due to shortages of bananas. They have stayed vanilla ever since.

it's a small angel cake filled with a sugary "creme" filling. It says creme but it's doesn't really have any cream in it. It tastes more like a very light frosting.
