After he sends the hyenas after Simba, we don't see Scar again until well after nightfall. As we know, it wouldn't have taken him much time at all to head back to Pride Rock to share the bad news... so what do you suppose he was doing all that time?

I think that buried under his triumph, Scar felt a little bit of apprehension and regret about what he had done. There could be no going back.
