Nicole practically slammed the bathroom door shut behind her. She rested for a moment, almost panting as she leaned against it. Nicole rubbed her still twitching face tendrils. She had no idea that they could act like that…or that René would—
She held her hand over her fluttering heart. Never…NEVER did Nicole imagine that René would ever be gutsy enough to DO that! Secretly though, Nicole felt a little pleased. She always felt that René would do well to grow a little more back bone. But she didn’t expect that he’d first show it by slobbering on her face!
Wandering over to the sink, Nicole turned on the tap and splashed cold water on her face. She felt her cheek…it was still warm. Nicole went to the bathroom window and after some prying, opened it. The snow on the ledge was deep and thick, so she just buried her whole face in it. Shivering, she drew back after she was sufficiently ‘cooled off.’ Then she noticed all the snow coming down.
She dried her face and then wondered what she’d say when she went back to René. Walking out of the bathroom, she blinked as she saw that pandemonium had broken out. “What’s going on?” She asked no one in particular.
“Snow storm!” One skier answered anyway.
“We’re snowed in for the weekend!” Another added.
Nicole idly felt her jaw drop. She cast her gaze skywards and muttered. “Oh, you’ve GOT to be kidding me…” Forgetting about René for a second Nicole figured that she better go back to the room and let her folks know about the…change in plans.
She had to practically shove her way through the throngs in the hallways as she made her way back to her room. Forcing the door closed to drown out the noise of the masses outside, Nicole picked up the phone.
“Hello, main desk? I’d like to make an outgoing call…yes, thank you.” She gave her home number and heard the phone start to ring.
“Hello?” It was her mom.
“Hi mom.” Nicole answered as she sat down on the bed. “How’s everyone home?”
Her mom smile practically came through the phone. “Oh we’re fine…and all wondering how you’re doing.”
Nicole sighed. “I’m fine mom, skiing was great—but there’s a problem. There’s a snowstorm up here and well…it looks like I might not get home tonight as planned.”
Big Momma didn’t answer for a moment. “I see.” She said and probably did. “Um, you two have a room at the resort, right?”
“…Yes.” Nicole sighed. “It was just supposed to store our stuff and maybe give us a place to unwind…”
“And is there a bed?” Her mom asked. “Or two?”
“…There’s only one.” Nicole admitted. “And it’s a single.”
She winced as she waited for her mother’s response. “Oh dear.” She finally said. “Did you bring your antidote pills with you?” She asked, referring to the pills to counter the effects of her poison pin stings.
“…No.” Nicole admitted. Her mother sighed.
“Honey, I’ve told you a thousand time…always—”
“—always have my pills with me.” Nicole chimed in. “I know…I just, I didn’t think—” Nicole heard someone talking in the background.
“The boy probably planned this.” Nicole heard her dad say to her mom.
“DAD!” Nicole shouted into phone.
Her mother snorted. “Just ignore your father dear. You know he’s really just concerned…about both of you.”
“Are you sure she doesn’t…you know.” Nicole heard her dad ask Big Momma.
“No, she doesn’t have her pills. Honestly, why are men so squeamish about these things?” She rolled her eyes. “Just be careful not to accidentally prick René.”
“And here I thought that was what you had to say to the BOY, not the girl.” Nicole fumed as she heard her brother, clearly listening in on another line.
“Get off the phone Nicolas!!!” She swore.
Nicolas laughed. “Try not to take advantage of René sis, that poor innocent flower plucked in his prime—” Nicole launched into a string of violent curses, forgetting her parents for a minute as she swore to rearrange every part of his physiology.
She was cut off in mid-tirade by her mother’s insistent shout. “NICOLE ZUNA!” Big Momma shouted. Nicole winced and fell silent. “I’LL take care of your brother. YOU keep a civil tongue in your head and take care of yourself and René. Call us when your situation changes or when you’ll be heading home. Okay dear?”
“Yes mom…” Nicole sighed. “Sorry.”
“Take care sweety.” Big M said. “And remember…wear clean undies to bed!”
Nicole went red in the face. “MOM!”
“Bye honey.” Big M said with a grin as she hung up, Mr. Zuna clearly laughing in the background.
“…Weirdos.” Nicole fumed as she hung up. “My family is a bunch of—”
A knock at the door threw her off stride. “Hello?”
“Nicole?” It was René. “Can I…Can I come in?”
“Sure.” Nicole answered. René slowly opened the door and peered in. Upon seeing that she wasn’t about to smack him for licking her, he walked inside and closed the door behind him. Of course, he wasn’t really paying attention to what he was doing and slammed the door on his own tail.
“Oww!” He yelped as his tail got caught in the door. Nicole hurried over and opened the door again, closing it after René pulled his tails in.
“You okay?” She asked, concerned. René winced as he clutched the injured tail to his chest but gave a brief nod, sitting down on the bed as he rubbed his poor tail. Nicole sighed as she sat down next to him. “Better let me have a look at it.”
“But—hey!” René said startled as Nicole gently pried his fingers away from the place where the door closed on his tail. She lifted the tail up so that it was closer to her face as she examined it. René blushed. “Um…look I just wanted to say that I’m sorry I startled you—earlier I mean. I just meant to…and I…”
Nicole flushed a bit but couldn’t think of anything to say. She didn’t want to put down René’s first real attempt at getting more forward but she couldn’t deny that it was awkward for her either…in lieu of saying anything Nicole started to gently rub the sore spot on René’s tail.
René’s babbled apologies soon stopped as a relaxed, half-lidded look crossed over his face. He sighed in contentment. “Hey Nicole.” He mumbled, not daring to meet her face. “Did you hear about the storm?”
She nodded. “I did.” She went on gently stroking his tail. “I guess we’re spending the night together…in this room I mean.”
“Yeah…” René said numbly. “There’s only one bed.”
“Uh-huh.”
“It isn’t even a double.”
“Yup.”
“And there’s no couch.”
“Nope.”
“And with all the stranded skiers it’s going to be impossible to get a spare cot or another room.”
“Yup.”
“So…” René started. “You can take the bed and I’ll sleep on the floor.”
“Why do I have to take the bed?” Nicole demanded as she put her hands on her hips. “’Cause I’m a girl I can’t spend a night on the floor? As if! You take the bed!”
“But I have these.” René grabbed his tails. “They’re a makeshift pillow and blanket all in one. I don’t need the bed. You take it.”
“No, You!”
“You!”
“You!”
“You!”
“You!” Nicole threw up her hands. “Oh this is infantile! Let’s just share the stupid bed!” René started to open his mouth. “And not ONE word in protest! I won’t hear it!” René closed his mouth again. “So let’s just get undressed and get into bed.” René went red all over. Nicole fumed. “Ooh, you know what I mean!”
“Y-yeah.” René nodded. “I do.”
“Good.” Nicole stated. “If I thought we were going to sleep together in THAT sense I would've taken my pills with me.” She said as she got up to go to the bathroom, referring to the antidote pills to her tiny poison back spines. René unfortunately took that the other way and fell back on the bed in a near faint.

Fantastic chapter! I have quickly come to love any scene regarding the entire Zuna family. :D And they just keep getting pushed together more and more, huh?
Glad she understands about Rene's attempted forwardness, though. I hope she lets him know she appreciates it at some point.
