Back in elementary school we learned about how animals survive in the desert. The gila monster lizard stores fat in its tail in order to survive. Of course I couldn't resist drawing ridiculously fat-tailed gila monsters in my notebook pages after hearing about that. So really the only thing new about this drawing is the technique. The background is just a picture of the Mojave Desert I googled (cuz I was so busy on the gila monster that I didn't feel like doing a background). The gila monster itself was drawn, inked, and colored by hand. Then I scanned it and used Photoshop to brighten the colors, darken the lines, and add lighting & shading.
