It wasn't, really. Just a sort of word of mouth event. I think that logistically things went well enough this year to make it an established event. I'd like to suggest doing it on Saturday next year as Friday doesn't work so great for me at Reg either if we're as short-staffed as we were this year. But time of day should remain the same as that's best for natural light on the roof.
Agreed, it's great lighting. 5pm is rough for me all 3 days. It's an hour before payout on Saturday also, and at the tail end of payout on Sunday (right when we start packing). On Saturday I /might/ be able to get someone to cover for me 'til 5:45 or so, so I can get back in time for closing. It's certainly more feasible than Friday, when I'm pulling my hair out trying to remember everything I need to do. ;)
Is 7pm worse? Light is on the tail end of Good getting into Golden if skies are clear. That would help me, too, a bit.
Either way, the good news is that we took under an hour end-to-end and could likely do better next year now that we've had some practice. Everyone meets on 3rd floor at elevator, we separate into two groups by height, we use the elevator to go up, everyone lines up, there is a bit of position tweaking, and shooting begins.

Sounds marvelous. 7pm is also difficult, because payout begins at 6pm and typitcally takes over an hour. But, I'm working on better delegation with my staff, we're actively discussing it in emails now actually. We'll see. I'll definitely have to decide between parade or shoot, definitely can't do both.
Please don't change the time on my account. Even if I commit, the convention's needs come first, and I may have to bail. i'd feel immensely guilty if the time was changed for me and then I couldn't make it.
