Over the next few days I will start posting some of the sketches I did at Everfree Northwest. This 4th of July weekend was one of the best times I have had at a convention. I'll be making a couple journals posting about it soon. There was a great creative energy at con and it made it very easy for me to just sit back and sketch while I shared the fun with all the bronies gathered there.
A lot of my sketches that weekend had a music theme to them. These are some sketches of the pony that goes by the name of Scratch in my Equestria dreamscape. While portrayed as DJ on the show, in my dreamscape she is a full fledged musician, singer, and performer. In fact Petina, myself, and Carousel got a chance to see her perform at the Canterlot Music Festival http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7902659/
These are some studies I did of this sassy while taking it easy in the bar at the convention hotel.
Also I finally figured which modern female performer has a voice that is pretty close to Scratch's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw

"I seem to be seeing a lot of her now, what with the missing hat and costumes."
Hm, I could see Scratch wanting some thunderclouds handled to improve the bass in an outdoor performance, sort of like the 1812 Overture does with cannons. Or maybe getting interested in Rainbow Dash's new performance style.

Scratch is prolly my favorite of your Dreamscape characters. I find it interesting how she's evolved into her own character (at this point it's pretty doubtful that she was actually the pony DJing for Rarity, unless Spike pulled some major strings behind the scenes or Scratch decided to slum it big time. My guess? DJ Pon3 is simply an enormous Scratch fangirl, picture a scenario like in the song "Stan" by Eminem, although hopefully with a less sad ending.) I'm a big fan of steampunk music and I like how while Scratch is definitely steampunk, she still makes sense in the ponyverse as the direction alternative music would take. It seems to me like Equestria is gaining a postmodernist movement, which is definently an interesting cultural development.
