OLD ART Me and My Pokemon 2006
The last, and final piece of my Me and My Pokemon pieces: 2006.
2006 was--well... a bit of an awkward year for myself. College had kicked my butt the first year, and I found myself not wanting to move forward, but instead to regress back to what I was familiar with. I dealt with internal struggles of "wanting to remain the same, but to mature and move forward." I was turning 20 that year, and I was afraid that by turning 20, I would lose an important part of my life: the memories of being a teenager. Unfortunately, I let fear run a great part of my life, and always felt stressed that I had to do things "just right," and things needed to be "just so." I wouldn't settle for anything less than what I thought was my own perfection... and that's where this drawing came in.
2005's Me and My Pokemon kicked serious butt. I was more than proud of that drawing. Despite the advancements I'd made in a year, I knew that no matter what I ended up drawing, it wouldn't surpass what I'd drawn the year before. With that being said, I proceeded to draw a themed drawing instead of going "bigger and better." My Pokemon were always by my side, and I had to admit: drawing some characters in the foreground and others in the background was a bit unfair for those who never got as much of the spotlight. So, having all my girls lounging in the foreground with I their "manager" in the the back seemed like a fun idea! So I went through with it.
It never came out the way I'd anticipated. I loved the idea of it, but something didn't quite go right. I never felt satisfied or the same satisfaction from completing this drawing as I'd felt with previous years. Still, I'd done my best, gave it my all, and knew that if I kept lingering on this drawing forever, I'd never draw anything better!
>3> Still bugged I never got Mayu or myself down the way I wanted it to be...
