Last night I couldn't fall asleep, so I did what anyone would do and scoured the internet to read Dog's Days of Summer. I have know about the comic for a number of years, but just never got around to reading it for one reason or another~
Maybe it was because it was 2 AM, but after reading Blotch's famed comic I fell in love. This comic for one reason or another captured me and wouldn't let me sleep for another 2 hours so I could think about it, and in the morning, I didn't know what else to do than make some fan art!
I went against my usual method of painting in grayscale then overlaying the color and adding detail, and tried to just start right down with the colors, mixing in reds and blues to try to make it bright and interesting like true Traditional artists do. I got some of that idea in there, but there is a lot I could have done better. I don't think there is a lot of contrast in my painting and the darks could be far more darker. By looking at it I'd say I probably only went about to 50 or 60% darkness, making the whole picture seem kinda light and without depth.
I'm going to try to paint some more pictures like this though and if I can, fiddle with the unused acrillics paint set in my drawer here and try and learn how to paint correctly, without digital shortcuts.
I'm going to send this to Blotch for funsies and see what she thinks of it once AC 2013 is over.
Obviously, the title, characters, and comic all belong to Blotch. I just made this painting.
Enjoy!
