I was thinking the same thing. It'd be strange to have fur in a jungle camouflage patturn...and it would be useful in the jungle and nowhere else.

I believe the problem of nonsensical fur colours and patterns is quite prevalent in pony OCs, perhaps even more so than in furry chars.

It may, like fan-alicornism, be related to the "speshul" syndrome.

Well, you can't be too picky about colors at least, seeing as the original MLP ponies are yellow, pink, purple, and pretty much every other color you can think of.

Hm. I assume you've yet to see the oversaturated black-and-reds (or similar) with no regards to matching mane/fur/eyes, over-the-top or show-inappropriate cutie marks, and the likes.

As for the oversaturated blacks-and-reds and unfitting CMs I will not point my finger at the good person whose art I'm commenting on out of sheer good manners.

As for the Alicorn Sue part, ponibooru is down at the moment, being my main source of material I've decided to wait it out for the moment.

Oh, I do not blame you. Some people have ideas of "character design" that tends to veer into bad uncanon. Being one of those people who enjoy taking apart whatever horrible things fans may produce I automatically engage snark mode.
