Backstory -
Past - Spooks’ origins reside in a tiny island country between Iceland and Norway and most of it’s population is feline. The country itself run on a Monarchy and the culture brings in different aspects from all over Europe. Because it’s an island it’s economy runs mainly on the fish industries. It’s most well-known for the beautiful trees that bloom pink, purple, and red flowers during half of the year, but it has other aspects that make it quite infamous. The country’s religious traditions lie heavily in folklore and superstition. With that being said, anyone who is born a black cat is instantly looked down upon and thought up as “Bad Luck”. This is insanely so when it comes to a black cat born into Royalty. So far, this had never happened due to thorough background checks into potential brides and suitors.
It was said once that if a black cat was ever bore into the royal home that it would mark the beginning of a dramatic change for the country. Most suspected that these changes weren’t going to be for the better.
On the night that Desdemona was born the whole island went into a panic, thinking that the foretold disaster would begin that night. They even tried to convince the doctors to get rid of her in order to keep the Kingdom safe. The queen was prepared to do just that but her’ father wouldn’t allow such a thing. She grew up under his almost constant supervision. He’d even took measures to bring in hired protectors from out of the country because he didn’t trust any the Royal Guard with Desdemona’s safety.
But it didn’t matter if she was well protected or not. As the years passed she was forever being judges and ridiculed by the Kingdom’s inhabitants and even by her own mother. When anything wrong happened, they always blamed the princess for it. A failed crop? It was all her fault. A death? She was the cause! And for her entire life this went on with nothing the King could do to stop it. The queen would often allow the kingdom to duel out punishments to the Princess when the king wasn’t around to stop it. She excused her doing so with “If I don’t, the Kingdom will riot.”
When Jade was born, who took after her mother with gorgeous white coloring, the Kingdom celebrated the birth.
It in turn brought on massive arguments from Desdemona’s parents. The queen was determined to see to it that Jade took the throne while Carddarik was convinced that Desdemona should, believing that she could lead the Kingdom into greatness and prove once and for all that the superstitions of the kingdom were false. The queen hated this idea but in the end it would always be by the King’s deciding.
Desdemona also grew up with her father as her tutor. She was very intelligent and she enjoyed spending as much time with him as she could. Once she turned 13 he began to start preparing her for when she would need to take over the throne. Deep down she was terrified of that idea but because he was constantly hammering his belief that she would do wonderful into her head, she never expressed her fear to him.
Then a day came when she was 15 for him to leave on a trip. During that time Desdemona's mother took over her tutoring. She was strict and hard on her and Spooks often thought that her mother nitpicked everything just to give her a reason to give her lashings. One day after a severe punishment for pushing her younger sister, which she hadn’t done on purpose, she ran away to a spot where she’d often go to be alone after a bad day. She’d received whip lashings and she was even bleeding from some of marks where she’d been hit. She sat there and cried for a good two hours, afraid and wishing her father would come home. Suddenly, a voice brought her face out of her hands and she looked up to see a cloaked woman standing a few feet away. Her face was hidden in the shadows of her hood. She spoke to her in a soft, but strange sounding voice and told her that everything would go okay. When asked who she was, she replied that her name was the “Seeker of Fear” and told Desdemona that she had been watching her. She told her that she felt she hated how poorly that the princess was being treated. She then told her that she could help take that all away if she’d only let her. She extended her hand and Desdemona stared at her in hesitation… before she finally reached for her. She remembered seeing a wicked smile appear from under the hood before a horrible pain washed over her body. After that she fainted.
She woke up in her room, her back no longer hurting from the whiplashes, and thinking that it was possibly only a bad dream that she had. She felt perfectly fine for the next two weeks and nothing out of the ordinary seemed to happen.
And then the day that her father would be returning came and her mother was in a particularly bad mood. She was hard on her that day, criticizing every little thing she did. She was in the middle of scolding her for having sloppy handwriting, causing Desdemna to tear up, when the princess heard a voice. It told her that her mother needed to shut up, that she was annoying. It asked Desdemona if she was ready to let her make the kingdom stop hurting her. Under the stress of her mother’s tone Desdemona finally told her she was.
Desdemona doesn’t recall what happened after that. She blacked out and woke up in the forest. Her clothes were ripped to shreds and stained with blood. She stumbled home, only to see that most of the village was in ruins. Whenever she’d pass one of the residents they would run from her or scream. By the time she made it home she was in utter confusion, unaware of what had happened. She was met on the steps by the Royal guards and taken into custody. She was told that she was the one who had made the mess and that she had even killed the king, which sent her into a bad state. She refused to believe that she could do such a thing.
She was kept in the dungeons for several hours. During this time she conversed with Fear Seeker who in turn told her that she had taken control of her body in order to teach the kingdom a lesson. She told her they wouldn’t dare mess with her again. She screamed and yelled at the voice in her head, which led to the guards thinking her crazy, but Fear Seeker had truly saw that what she had done was right.
Desdemona after this exiled from the kingdom, only to be hunted down by a group of men from the village and chased until they trapped her at the base of a waterfall and threw her over in hopes that she would drown.
Desdemona was discovered soon after this by Twilight who came across her attacking herself and trying to get Fear Seeker out of her body. Unknowing what she had done or who she was, Twilight ran forward to face her, using a powerful gem and forcing it into Desdemona’s chest in order to force her to forget her memories. Fear Seeker went dormant and Twilight ended up taking Desdemona back home with her. Being as how she didn’t know her name, she came up with the idea to call her Spooks after the girl had scared her the first time they officially met face to face. Spooks eventually began to remember small details of her past and she was forever cursed to have reoccurring dreams of her childhood.
She later on decided to stay with Twilight as her companion, signifying the beginning of their misfit family.
Present - At this point Spooks has discovered what it was she did, but she typically keeps it a secret. She has never stepped foot back into her kingdom and she doesn’t plan to have anything to do with that place again. She has taken up a roll of becoming the doctor for the people in her family, as most of them like to remain under the radar, and she seems pretty content with her life.
