René’s lips once again felt contact with the white fluffy snow. Blinking, he spat the snow out and wiped his face. “Fantastic.” He groaned as he rubbed his head. He looked back up the hill to where Nicole was covering her mouth, trying to stifle her giggles. Corbin turned to Nicole and said something René didn’t hear. Since Nicole started laughing René didn’t much care for it. His ears flattened against his head as he growled.
“Stupid hot ski instructor.” He grumbled as he crawled back up the slope.
“Not very coordinated is he?” Corbin asked Nicole.
“I guess not.” She grinned. “But hey, neither am I.”
Corbin raised a skeptical brow as he smiled. “Really? Somehow I doubt that.”
“I’ve crashed into the snow three times and once into a tree since we started.” She reminded him. “You had to pull my horn out of a knothole, remember?”
A grin crossed the abomasnow’s face. “Maybe…but you still pull off the skier look better than he does.”
“Be nice! I like him.” Nicole flushed, a little caught off guard by her own forwardness and not really getting what Corbin was getting at.
“Like him…how?” Corbin wondered. “Because I think someone like you could do bett—WHOA!” He yelped as he went sliding down the slope as the snow he was standing on quite suddenly melted and turned to mush under his feet. Flailing his arms he went down the slope on his back.
Nicole blinked. That’s when René crawled to the top of the slope. “Hey Nicole!” René waved weakly. “I miss anything?”
She shook her head. “No.”
“What happened to Corbin?” René asked with a grin. Nicole shrugged and pointed down. “Shame.” He murmured as he got up and shook the snow from his tails, ‘accidentally’ sending it down the slope to cover the dazed abomasnow. “Now…what about that hot chocolate?” He asked, thinking in bemusement that he’d been hanging around mon like Sam and Nikki too long.
“Sure.” Nicole said. “Let’s go in.”
“After you.” René waved. She smiled and started heading off. René took one last glance down the slope at Corbin as he groaned and got to his feet. René picked up a snowball and after a quick glance to make sure Nicole was still heading back, tossed it down at the abomasnow’s head. Corbin pitched forward.
“Definitely hanging around Sam too much.” René repeated aloud as he went after Nicole.
Back in the lodge, René and Nicole settled down into a pair of big comfy chairs on either side of a table. “Two steaming cups of hot coco, coming up.” Nicole smiled as she held one out to René. “I don’t think I have to warn you that it’s hot.”
“Hotness doesn’t put me off.” He admitted as he sipped his drink. “After all that snow I could practically bathe in this stuff.”
“I might join you.” Nicole said then turned red. “I mean—I would do the same thing…in a different tub of course. I mean I’m cold and don’t have any big bushy tails like you, you know? Right now I’d love to have your rear!”
“…Um…” René blinked. Nicole slapped herself in the face.
“GOT to stop talking.” She mumbled as she took a drink of her hot chocolate so she wouldn’t have to look at him. “Sorry I’ve been so weird.”
“You weird? Please! I’M the one that’s been weird!”
Nicole shook her head. “Nope, it’s all me. I mean, you’ve seen my family. It’s genetic.”
“True.” René agreed.
“What?” She glared at him.
René protested. “I was agreeing with you!”
“Oh yeah.” She laughed weakly as she took another drink. “Never mind. I keep finding ways to look ridiculous.”
René would’ve argued with her, if it weren’t for the fact that a melted bit of marshmallow was stuck to one of her face tendrils. He was about to point it out, but didn’t want to fluster her. Then he remembered something Sam had been encouraging him about so he leaned forward, closed his eyes…and gently licked the marshmallow off her tendril.
Nicole’s eyes bulged and her face went slack. She felt her nerves crackle with electricity. Her tendrils were a lot more sensitive that René—or even she—knew. Nicole put a hand on her cheek, which was feeling very warm. “I’ll…be right back.” She said as she fairly flew into the bathroom.
Groaning, René slumped back into his seat and stared at the ceiling. “Stupid, stupid, stupid!” He moaned. “What else can go wrong?”
“Quite dude!” Some skier on the other side of the lounge called as he and his friends were watching TV. “The news is on!”
“Huh?” René walked over to hear what the news was.
“…Sudden snow storm in the Mount Coronet area.” The newscaster was saying. “All travel to or from the Coronet region has been suspended.”
René walked over to the window as he saw the snow came pounding against the window. The vulpix banged his head against the window over and over again. “I…hate…my…life!”
