This is one of the very few ruralite articles I illustrated that I felt somewhat queasy about. As I recall, the author as a boy spent all his time hanging around an old folk's home, and seemed to think being a geezer was cool. Okay, reverence for age is a good thing up to a point, but this kid seemed to have missed everything good about being young! I'm sure my ambivalence about the subject shows in the drawing. These don't seem like especially impressive specimens of senior citizenry, do they? And there's the kid, enraptured, imitating them right down to the little rocking chair. On a slightly interesting note, the "frame" is an abstract porch.
